With COVID-19 wrecking havoc on our way of life, it’s nice to be able to turn to staples like sports and awards season to take our mind off of it. This year looks a little different, as the Academy Awards have been pushed back until April. The first out of the gate still, will be the Independent Film Project’s Gotham Awards. The nominees were announced this week with the ceremony taking place on January 11, 2021 instead of its usual date of the Monday after Thanksgiving. Often these nominations will echo through the independent awards season capped off by the Independent Spirit Awards, but these films also find their way to the Oscars, with “Marriage Story” being the most recent example.
