Tonight, the IFP Gotham Awards was a beacon of inclusivity. People of vast gender, ethnicity, race, etc. were among those awarded, presenting, and overall honored… and almost all of it was done from home. Yes, that meant their was some lag-time when people were thrown to, live. But the overall message of the evening was never lost. Hopefully the Academy was taking notes, because that’s how you do it.

Best Feature of the night went to “Nomadland,” which wasn’t a huge surprise, as it’s been steamrolling the Awards Season thus far. In particular, Chinese filmmaker Chloé Zhao has been a highlight of the season and was on hand to except not only Best Feature, but the Audience Award as well. Riz Ahmed, for his work in “Sound Of Metal,” and Nicole Beharie, for her work in “Miss Juneteenth” were the night’s Best Actor and Best Actress, while Breakthrough Actor went to Kingsley Ben-Adir, for his work in “One Night In Miami.”

The most emotional moment of the night was a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, presented by actor and friend Andre Holland, and accepted by Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward. Her words were truly touching.
