When it comes to physical media, particularly Steelbooks, Lionsgate is setting the standard. The company consistently delivers exceptional artwork and thoughtfully designed slipcovers, catering precisely to the desires of collectors. Their releases of the less-than-acclaimed “Angel Has Fallen” and “The Strangers: Chapter 1” surpassed expectations, and the July release of “Saw X,” despite drawing from the international edition, was a standout.
A24 is another studio making notable strides, though they have not yet ventured into Steelbooks. Their Shop Exclusives, such as “I Saw The TV Glow” and “The Zone Of Interest,” are commendable. On the international front, releases like “Civil War,” “Purple Rain,” and the Film Vault re-releases of “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Scarface,” and “Jaws” in Steelbook form are unparalleled, with more anticipated next month.
The least impressive artwork from July was the 4K upgrade of “Twister,” as the international release featuring the original poster is far superior. Looking ahead to August, I am particularly excited about Warner Bros’ release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and Disney’s release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” both boasting impressive Steelbook artwork.
