In the start of this last quarter of 2024, you can see a pattern in my physical media buying habits. I focus mainly on 4K Ultra HD releases, with all but five of my purchases landing in that format. The five Blu-Rays that I did buy were because they came in Steelbooks. I mainly stick to collecting Steelbooks, and if I stray away from them, it’s normally to buy from the boutique labels like Shout Factory or Arrow Video. I tend to spend the most on importing titles from Group Buys or from Zavvi, also, in general, just for Steelbooks or big Box Sets. The biggest of these that I received in September was the Blufans OneClick release of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” with the others releasing throughout the rest of the year. Not only did I spend the most on that this month, it also comes in as my favorite release of the month, hands down. Of the five Shout Factory 4Ks that I ordered, “The Amityville Horror” is my favorite among them and of the three Arrow Video 4Ks I got, I enjoy the art of “Friday the 13th” the most. “Inside Out 2” is my favorite domestic Steelbook release of September and “Civil War” is my favorite international (non-Box Set) Steelbook that I received. As always, my main wish was that the “Knuckles” Steelbook released with the 4K discs, as it did have a standard 4K release. However, I’m thankful that Paramount Presents put out “Bringing Out The Dead” on 4K, rather than Blu-Ray with a 4K following later. That Martin Scorsese title has been on my wishlist for a 4K release for quite some time. Next month, I’m most looking forward to the “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Borderlands” Steelbooks.
