One could highlight 2025’s start as the launch of the Lionsgate Limited label and high-profile directors continuing to upgrade their filmography to the 4K format, with those Venn diagrams often crossing.

Last year, James Cameron made waves as he dove into his past films and delivered them in crisp 4K Ultra HD. Now, Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher are overseeing new transfers of their catalog. Tarantino’s films coincide with the Lionsgate Limited launch, with “Jackie Brown,” “Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2,” and a new version of “Reservoir Dogs,” all getting the 4K Steelbook treatment and landing as my favorite releases of the month. Fincher only saw “Se7en” get a 4K Steelbook this month, with “Panic Room” and “The Social Network” coming as the most anticipated releases of next month. Tarantino also had “Inglourious Basterds” released through Arrow Video. And Lionsgate also released Amazon Exclusive 4K Steelbooks of “Snowpiercer” and “The Last Witch Hunter.”

A24 continued their new release rollout, with “We Live In Time” and “Heretic” getting 4K Exclusive Digipacks through their website. Other boutique 4K releases included “Sea Of Love” and “Reindeer Games” from Kino Lorber, “The Cell” from Arrow Video, and re-release 4K Steelbooks of “Drag Me To Hell” and “Motel Hell” from Shout Factory. Major 2024 titles that got released included “Smile 2” and “Venom: The Last Dance,” with 4K Steelbooks, and the Academy Award-nominated feature “The Substance,” released from MUBI and receiving an international Steelbook in the upcoming months. Next month, my most anticipated releases include the previously mentioned David Fincher titles, more Lionsgate Limited releases, including “You’re Next” and “The Third Man,” and the 4K Steelbook from Universal of “Wicked” and “Nosferatu.”
