Candice Norman operates the hottest dance academy in town, with hoards of hopefuls dying to be admitted, maybe literally. Shortly after a trio of new students are accepted into Candice’s tutelage, a young female pupil is found murdered on campus, stabbed through the heart with a long pin. With the backbiting staff and students alike all rendered possible suspects, Candice is also plagued by haunting dreams involving a sinister man. When Candice spots this man’s face on a billboard, she decides to track him down, while yet another rising dance starlet winds up with a punctured heart. Is this handsome stranger as dangerous as the man in her dreams? Could a bloodthirsty maniac from outside the school be preying upon the dancers? Or has the intense competition between dancers and staff turned one of them into a depraved killer? And how does Candice herself factor into this shocking mystery?

Director Lucio Fulci’s (City of the Living Dead, The Beyond) final giallo and also his final film set in New York City, MURDEROCK (Murderock – Uccide a passo di danza), is amongst the maestro’s last truly lavish productions, boasting stylized dance numbers (scored by legendary musician Keith Emerson) and surreal dream sequences between its labyrinthine mystery and gruesome killings. Starring Olga Karlatos (Zombie), Ray Lovelock (Autopsy), Claudio Cassinelli (Slave of the Cannibal God), Cosimo Cinieri (The New York Ripper), and featuring a guest appearance from Silvia Collatina (The House by the Cemetery), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings this late period giallo classic to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, exclusively restored from its 35mm camera negative and boasting an unparalleled selection of new and archival extras, including the first-ever interview with co-writer Gianfranco Clerici (Cannibal Holocaust), amongst many others.

The Nesting

| VS-499 SLIP |

Distribpix | 1981 | 110 min | 1.85:1 | English Mono
Directed by Armand Weston
Starring: Robin Groves, Michael David Lally, John Carradine, Gloria Grahame, Christopher Loomis, Bill Rowley, David Tabor

With the impending release of her new book, “The Nesting,” agoraphobic New York-based writer Lauren Cochran decides to spend some time outside the city to find inspiration for her next novel. Arriving in the small town of Dover Falls, she happens across an isolated and dilapidated mansion that bears an uncanny resemblance to the one depicted on the cover of her latest work. Feeling a strange pull to the place, Lauren decides to rent the property and quickly gets herself set up and into writing mode. But it’s not long before she starts experiencing bizarre, vivid dreams and seeing ghostly apparitions. Soon enough, those around her start dying in strange and gruesome ways. What could all this have to do with the house’s murky history and a tragedy that occurred there decades before?

The only mainstream feature directed by prolific illustrator and erotic filmmaker Armand Weston (Defiance, Take Off), THE NESTING – which was originally filmed as Phobia and subsequently re-released in 1983 as Massacre Mansion – is a stylish supernatural slasher expertly photographed by João Fernandes (Children of the Corn, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), and featuring Academy Award-winning actress Gloria Grahame (The Bad and the Beautiful) in her final screen role. Now newly restored in 4K from its original 35mm camera negative, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to unveil THE NESTING in its UHD world premiere, presented in its longer Phobia cut for the first time on home video, alongside a host of new bonus features and a wealth of archival material.

Devil Doll / Curse of the Voodoo

| VS-498 SLIP |

Galaworldfilm | 1964, 1965 | 169 min (combined) | 1.66:1 | English DTS-HD Master Audio Mono
Directed by Lindsay Shonteff
Starring: Bryant Haliday, William Sylvester, Yvonne Romain, Dennis Price, Lisa Daniely, Sandra Dorne, Nora Nicholson, Mary Kerridge, Ronald Leigh-Hunt

This special limited edition spot gloss slipcover (designed by Robert Sammelin) is limited to 5,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Few filmmakers working in British genre cinema had more memorable careers than Lindsay Shonteff. The Canadian ex-pat produced an incredibly diverse body of work during his few decades spent toiling on the fringes of England’s low-budget film community. Still, few of his films have developed a wider – and more deserved – fan base than his set of 60s horror-shockers made for legendary producer Richard Gordon (Horror Hospital): DEVIL DOLL and CURSE OF THE VOODOO. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to offer both of these true cult classics, newly scanned and restored from their camera negatives in 4K and on Blu-ray for the first time.

Acclaimed magician The Great Vorelli dazzles audiences with his mastery of hypnosis while shocking them with a strange ventriloquist dummy named Hugo. Determined to uncover Vorelli’s methods for making Hugo’s movement and speech appear so real, reporter Mark English begins a covert investigation. However, nothing can prepare him for the strange and horrifying secret trapped inside the dummy, nor for the murderous actions it will take to be freed… Integrating the supernatural into a twist-filled story of revenge, DEVIL DOLL stars Bryant Haliday (Tower of Evil), William Sylvester (Gorgo), and Yvonne Romain (Night Creatures) and is presented in its “Continental” version, which has never before been seen complete and uncut on video!

Mike Stacey is a cold-blooded guide to novice big game hunters. While on safari in Africa, he has to clean up the mess of one of his clients, shooting a lion they wounded but couldn’t kill. But no sooner than moving in to collect the body is he accosted by the local tribesmen who reveal that the lion is their deity and that any man who dares interfere will suffer unimaginable torments. Upon returning to England, Mike is besieged by unrelenting nightmares and a paranoid sense that he’s being watched, chased, and hunted like the animals he preys upon. As he descends further into madness, he realizes that the only way he can break the curse is by returning to Africa and again facing the deadly tribe… A 1960s update of Jungle adventure and horror films of the 1930s and 40s, CURSE OF THE VOODOO (aka Curse of Simba) again stars Bryant Haliday, Dennis Price (The Earth Dies Screaming), and Lisa Daniely (Lili Marlene).

Igor and the Lunatics

| VSA-053 |

Troma | 1985 | 79 min | 1.33:1 | English Mono
Directed by W.J. Parolini
Starring: T.J. Glenn, Joe Niola, Mary Ann Schacht, Joseph Eero, Joan Ellen Delaney, Kathleen Dennehy

The Vinegar Syndrome Archive sub-label celebrates forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT, Denver, CO, Toronto, ON, and Pittsburgh, PA (opening soon!).

These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This spot gloss slipcase edition (designed by Luke Insect) is strictly limited to 4,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

A group of cultists led by the maniacal Paul spend their days in a haze of psychedelic-fueled free love whilst their vicious leader dishes out bloody and brutal vengeance on anyone who attempts to leave the fold – aided by his crazed and thoroughly sadistic right-hand man, Igor, who has a particular fondness for carving up nubile young women with his trusty collection of sharp implements. After being incarcerated for several years for a spate of grim slayings, Paul is released back into society and, reunited with his murderous devotees, immediately sets about continuing his gruesome cult activities.

Financed by the legendary Troma Entertainment, who ended up requiring extensive reshoots in order to up the movie’s gore quotient (with these additional sequences being helmed by Spookies directors Thomas Doran and Brendan Faulkner), IGOR AND THE LUNATICS is a demented, depraved, and thoroughly distasteful Manson Family-esque shocker from the studio that Toxie built. Now newly restored in 4K from its original 16mm camera negative, Vinegar Syndrome Archive is delighted to present IGOR AND THE LUNATICS in both its original release version, alongside the home video debut of its longer Bloodshed cut, as well as a brand new making-of documentary digging into the behind-the-scenes of this sickening cult favorite.

  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 16mm original camera negative
  • “The Lunatics Fringe: Remembering Igor and the Lunatics” (34 min) – a making-of documentary featuring interviews with co-director Brendan Faulkner, production co-ordinator Frank Farel, cinematographer John Raugalis, and crew member / extra Cecilia Cosentini
  • Reversible sleeve artwork

Starring: Wesley Snipes, Gary Busey, Yancy Butler, Michael Lester, Malcolm-Jamal Warner

Taking its name from the Lumière Brothers invention of the same name, Cinématographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fill gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe will explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production. Curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome’s Justin LaLiberty, each limited edition release will be housed in a specially designed, cloth-bound, media book with embossed foil titles and custom molded disc trays accompanied by a slipcase featuring newly commissioned art and an individually numbered J-card.

This special limited edition J-card MediaBook slipcase (designed by Tony Stella) is limited to 5,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Pete and Terry Nessip (Wesley Snipes, Passenger 57; Malcolm-Jamal Warner, TV’s Malcolm & Eddie) are two U.S. Marshals escorting Earl Leedy (Michael Jeter, Miller’s Crossing), a computer criminal being transferred to a maximum security prison, when the plane they’re traveling on is hijacked by terrorists, resulting in the death of Terry and Earl’s daring escape from the law at 30,000 feet. The hijacking turns out to be the plot of ex-DEA agent turned skydiver Ty Moncrief (Gary Busey, Point Break) who plans to break into the DEA mainframe in Washington DC, with the help of Leedy, to get back at the government that failed him. Pete Nessip, looking to avenge his brother’s death and get back his prisoner, teams up with skydiving instructor Jessie Crossmann (Yancy Butler, Hard Target) to chase down Ty’s crew from the Florida Keys to Washington DC, before the fireworks go off on the 4th of July.

An inspired late-career entry in the unpredictable oeuvre of British born, but American based, New Hollywood iconoclast John Badham (Saturday Night Fever, Blue Thunder), DROP ZONE meshes Badham’s penchant for strong character work with impressive practical stunts and hand-to-hand combat, resulting in one of the better, and oft-overlooked, studio action films of the 1990s. Executive produced by Badham himself and featuring production design by Joe Alves (Escape from New York, Jaws), a thunderous score by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer (Interstellar) and kinetic photography by Badham collaborator Roy H. Wagner (Nick of Time). Cinématographe is proud to present the world 4K UHD debut of the most action packed film in John Badham’s career, newly restored from its original camera negative.

From nudies to roughies to ultra weird regional curiosities, the sexploitation world welcomed any filmmaker working in any genre, so long as the limits of nudity and sex on screen were pushed as far as they could go – but never all the way. DISTRIBPIX, one of the legendary names in the genre (and whose extensive library will be the backbone of this line), will offer single, double, and even triple feature Blu-rays highlighting works from every corner and crevice of softcore smut, from the dawn of nudie cuties to the all-but-hard 70s, with plentiful lost and never on disc films along the way.

This special limited edition 4k Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo exclusive to the Vinegar Syndrome website (designed by Adam Maida), includes a 40-page perfect bound book, and is limited to 2,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Without shared names, backstories, or even a prior relationship, two strangers become entangled in a chaotic, lustful affair centered around a studio apartment in the city of love. On their own in the streets of Paris, Paul and Jeanne work their way through everything from carefree adventures to the tristesse of mourning a lost love while the apartment becomes their sultry sanctuary from the outside world. As their fling evolves into something that resembles love, the ugliness of the outside world that they both sought to escape forces its way into their relationship, changing both of them forever. With lush cinematography by three-time Academy Award winner Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now) and a carefully structured narrative co-written and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci (1900), Last Tango In Paris pushes the boundaries of cinema in the city of its birth. Marlon Brando (The Godfather) plays Paul, the middle-aged man who uses the apartment to escape from a traumatic death, while Maria Schneider (The Passenger) stars opposite as Jeanne, an exuberant Parisian woman who uses the fling to gain a feeling of independence from prior emotional commitments. Distribpix proudly presents the UHD debut of this seminal film in the canon of erotic films, freshly restored from its 35mm original camera negative under the supervision of Storaro and featuring a selection of new and archival interviews.

Bone Sickness

| SC-046 |

2004 | 102 min | 1.33:1 | English DTS-HD MA 2.0
Directed by Brian Paulin
Starring: Rich George, Darya Zabinski, Brian Paulin, Ruby Larocca, Kevin Barbare

Saturn’s Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn’s Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

This listing is for the standard edition Blu-ray. The limited edition slipcover (designed by Eerie Crypts) was limited to 1,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.

Alex (Rich George) is suffering from a terminal bone disease. When traditional methods fail to improve his condition, his devoted wife Kristen (Darya Zabinski) resorts to some rather ghoulish means of alternative medicine. She enlists Alex’s morgue attendant best friend Thomas (Brian Paulin) to procure skeletal remains from the local cemetery and grind up the rotting corpse marrow to feed to Alex for nourishment. Unfortunately this misguided scheme soon leads to a rash of dire consequences as Alex slowly transforms into homicidal, worm spewing “necro junkie”,  putrefied zombies rise from their graves to devour the flesh of the living, and a hideous race of goblins emerge from the darkness to punish the impudent human race.

A Fulci inspired mission statement from the Massachusetts master of SOV garage gore Brian Paulin (At Dawn They Sleep, Fetus, Blood Pigs), Bone Sickness remains amongst the most jaw dropping zombie epics to ever emerge from the video underground. With high risk homespun car stunts, full body burns, abundant full frontal nudity, striking naturescapes, and show stopping practical gore and creature FX of the highest order, Bone Sickness presents all of Paulin’s trademark directorial flourishes firing on all cylinders. Featuring capacious entrail munching, garage door decapitations, skill saw vivisections, explosive worm defecation, and machine gun jaw removal, Bone Sickness (making its Blu-Ray debut accompanied by over 10 hours of new and archival special features!) is an operatic orgy of carnage highlighted by a handful of the most unforgettably violent images ever committed to screen.

A leading figure of the cinéma vérité movement and inspiration for the French New Wave, Jean Rouch’s documentaries of the 1960s revolutionized ethnographic filmmaking. In The Human Pyramid, a work of “groundbreaking metafiction” (The New Yorker), Rouch meets with a group of white colonial French students and their Black African classmates (all non-actors) in a lycée on the Ivory Coast. Inspired by the arrival of a new white classmate (Nadine Ballot), Rouch encourages the students to enact an improvised drama about the realities of interracial relationships, transforming their attitudes towards each other in the process. Included as a bonus film, Rouch’s The Punishment sees Nadine Ballot return as an aimless young student wandering the streets of Paris in a vérité portrait of youth culture in transition.

Factory 25, a Brooklyn-based independent film distribution company was founded in 2009 by Matt Grady. F25 is a home for conceptually provocative narratives and documentaries. Its mission is to deliver specialized film and music titles in an aesthetically captivating way while exposing the indie world to under-the-radar films, music, and other curiosities in various ways and formats — theatrically, digitally, on TV, VOD, via subscription, limited edition DVDs, Blu-ray’s, books and vinyl. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

This special limited edition slipcover is limited to 1,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

An up-close cinematic walkabout through the life of Gary Young, the original (and highly unlikely) drummer of indie rock royalty Pavement. His booze and drugs-fueled antics (on-stage handstands, gifting vegetables to fans) and haphazard production methods (accidentally helping launch the lo-fi aesthetic) were both a driving force of the band’s early rise and the cause of his eventual crash landing. Leaving a wake of joy and/or destruction at every turn, Gary teeters the thin line between free-form self-expression and chaotic self-destruction. Thirty years on with scoliosis, blood clots, and a shriveled liver, Gary continued drumming with no regrets.

The final film from director Alain Corneau (SERIE NOIRE, TOUS LES MATINS DU MONDE), LOVE CRIME pits the fiery talents of Ludivine Sagnier (A GIRL CUT IN TWO) and Oscar-nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (THE ENGLISH PATIENT) against each other in a deliciously twisted tale of office politics that turn, literally, cut-throat.

When Christine, a powerful executive (Scott Thomas), brings on a naive young ingénue, Isabelle (Sagnier), as her assistant, she delights in toying with her naïveté and teaching her hard lessons in a ruthless professional philosophy. But when the protege’s ideas become tempting enough for Christine to pass one as her own, she underestimates Isabelle’s ambition and cunning– and the ground is set for all out war. In this devilish, propulsive thriller, Corneau sets up a the scenery expertly and his actors devour it.

The Marquise of O…

1976 | 103 min | 1.33:1 | German DTS-HD MA 1.0
Directed by Eric Rohmer

Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

Already an established filmmaker by the 1976 release of THE MARQUISE OF O, an adaptation of Heinrich von Kleist’s classic short story, the film stands as Eric Rohmer’s “dazzling testament to the civilizing effects of several different arts, witty, joyous and so beautiful to look at” (The New York Times). Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival that year, Rohmer’s film is set in 1799 during the Russian invasion of Italy. A young widow, The Marquise (Edith Clever) lives with her parents; her father is the commander of a citadel embroiled in battle. With the fort overrun by Russians, the Marquise is abducted by a group of rowdy soldiers and nearly taken advantage of when the Russian commander Count F (Bruno Ganz) appears as if from nowhere to rescue her. Later, the Marquise realizes she is pregnant, though she cannot decipher how the circumstance came to be. The Marquise’s scandalized parents banish her to their country estate, where she pens a letter to the newspaper announcing that she will marry the father, whomever he may be, should he only present himself. Rohmer masterfully adapts von Kleist’s multi-layered story, creating “the aura of a neoclassical dream, a fading vision of the virtue of gentility” (The Chicago Reader).

In this debut feature by writer-director Laura Wandel, the everyday reality of grade school is seen from a child’s-eye-view as an obstacle course of degradation and abuse. Following 7-year-old Nora and her big brother Abel, we see Nora struggling to fit in before finding her place on the schoolyard. One day, she notices Abel being bullied by other kids, and though she rushes to protect him by warning their father, Abel forces her to remain silent, while he endures more humiliation and harassment by his peers. Transposing the gritty realism of such filmmakers as Jacques Audiard and the Dardennes Brothers to the inner world of kids, Wandel crafts an empathetic and visceral portrait of the cruelty of children, and the failure of adults to protect them. Shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Film.

Join Will Walker as he test pilots a captured enemy ship that shadows an unearthly childhood. On the mission he must work with a team of engineers and scientists who are members of an ancient secret society. By methodical use of silverware and ladders they have figured out how to make the movie (which is Will’s life) auto-rewind to the beginning over and over again.

Jared Whitman started Project Omicron when he was 15 years old and spent 7 years working on it. The result is one of the most unique and mind-bending sci-fi films you can imagine while also being a perfect love letter to the 50s science fiction films Whitman grew up watching. In a time when film was more than just entertainment—it was a weapon—WHAT WE LEFT UNFINISHED unearths the incredible true stories behind five unfinished feature films from Afghanistan’s Communist era (1978-1991). Filmmakers who dared to defy the odds, creating stories that both reflected and resisted the shifting political tides, were thrust into a battle where their craft became a matter of life and death.

Through stunningly restored, newly rediscovered footage from these long-lost films, WHAT WE LEFT UNFINISHED takes you on an unforgettable journey into a world where the line between history and fiction often blurred beyond recognition. Witness the filmmakers’ struggles against scarce resources, relentless threats, and political oppression as they sought to tell stories they believed could change the fate of their country.

WHAT WE LEFT UNFINISHED is not just a chronicle of lost films—it’s a window into the soul of a nation torn apart by war, ideology, and shifting allegiances. You’ll come to understand the cost Afghan filmmakers paid under Communism, the rewards they reaped despite the dangers, and why they still believe that cinema holds the power to heal the wounds that continue to divide Afghanistan today.

This is a story of resilience, of hope, and of the unbreakable belief in the power of film to shape reality.

Join us in uncovering a hidden chapter of history. A story that’s unfinished—but still calling for completion.

Directed by John Hayes

PEEKARAMA presents the wildest, rarest, and most scandalous theatrical hardcore double features. Taking its name from one of the earliest “all action” sex theatre chains, each PEEKARAMA release presents two themed, full length feature films, both meticulously restored, thus giving you the opportunity to enjoy an old fashioned dirty movie double feature at home!

This special limited edition spot gloss slipcover (designed by Rich Long) is limited to 2,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

John Hayes was a maverick amongst sexploitation filmmakers whose uniquely literate and often thought-provoking films left their mark on every corner of American genre cinema. Collaborating with producer Chris Warfield, Hayes’ first two hardcore features speak to his interest in death, working class dynamics, and general despair. These films are presented here from Peekarama, restored from their original camera negatives. Rosemary has spent her entire adult life estranged from her father, who placed her into an orphanage as a girl. Sexually repressed while idealizing the virtues of having a family, she rejects the advances of John, a young policeman who has fallen madly in love with her. After learning of her father’s death, Rosemary begins preparations for his wake, but as each day passes, increasingly strange events occur, causing Rosemary to question whether her father’s spirit is truly gone. A dark study of childhood trauma and grief which gives way to a fully waking dream-like state in its final act, BABY ROSEMARY offers a tremendous leading performance from Sharon Thorpe (SexWorld) along with Leslie Bovee (Lustful Feelings), Candida Royalle (Champagne For Breakfast), and John Leslie (Cry For Cindy). Andrew is nervous about his new job as a night shift cook at a tawdry diner and, after a disastrous first shift, comes home to discover his girlfriend is having an affair. After getting kicked out of his apartment, he gets a new job as a salesman, but realizes, much to his amazement, that he is irresistible to nearly every woman he meets. Using his sex appeal to further his career, everything seems to be going well until he meets hard-nosed lawyer Luana… A lighthearted romantic comedy, HOT LUNCH stars Jon Martin (Tropic of Desire), Desiree Cousteau (Pretty Peaches), and Christine De Shaffer (Pizza Girls).

A unique figure in the history of French cult film, José Bénazéraf came from the nouvelle vague but focused his interests in eroticism rather than politics, while still creating work which was as socially relevant as it was sexually provocative.

A pioneer in fighting censorship of nudity and sexuality in French cinema, Bénazéraf was also amongst the first directors to make movies with hard-X scenes, both helping to invent and subvert the expectations of the genre. Now, for the first time, you can experience six rare and even lost films from Bénazéraf’s most controversial period, all newly scanned from the original negatives:

In BLACK LOVE (1973), the first film by Bénazéraf to include hard scenes, a young black American escapes to Paris to help assist in a Black Liberation uprising, but quality realizes that there is a traitor in his organization. In LA VEUVE (1974), infidelity in a country chateau leads to deadly consequences. In LES DEUX GOUINES (1975) a scheming bride-to-be experiences abuse and revenge against her wealthy and famous fiancé. In LA PLANQUE (1975) and LA PLANQUE 2 (1976) Bénazéraf explores hard eroticism in two different crime stories, one a violent thriller and the other a light comedy. Finally, in his award winning experiment, J.B. 1 (1976), Bénazéraf dispenses with all pretense of story, creating a part fiction/part documentary study about the making of a porn film, as the viewer witnesses the work of the production crew while seeing the orgies they are photographing through the eye of the camera.
