Across the board, March was a smattering of physical media releases, including plenty of brand-new studio fare and tons of boutique label output. Picking this month’s favorite is difficult. I’m most appreciative that “Black Sheep” and “Tommy Boy” were given the 4K treatment. These comedies loomed large in my childhood, and it’s nice that comedies are finally getting some love when it comes to upgrading. The multiple A24 releases show that they’re leaning more into releasing their material, with “Sing Sing,” “Babygirl,” and “The Brutalist” getting the digipack treatment. Art-wise, it’s hard to beat the Second Sight releases of David Cronenberg’s “Scanners” and “The Brood.” And, despite having multiple releases of the film already, the artwork on the Shout Factory re-release of “Evil Dead” is exquisite. My least favorite release in terms of art was “Akira,” which was pretty plain, and if it hadn’t been a 4K upgrade, I would have passed on it.

We’ve started to get more 2025 releases, with “Den Of Thieves 2” getting a Lionsgate Limited release in a SteelBook box set with the first film. Universal also released the new “Wolf Man” in a 4K Steelbook with some exceptional artwork. I also get excited when new editions of Oscar Best Picture winners are released, so I was thrilled to receive the international version of “Amadeus” in a SteelBook Box Set. It can now go on my shelf with all the other Best Picture winners, of which I hope to have all someday. This month’s Arrow Video release of “Deep Blue Sea” was a must-have. It’s a film that lived on basic cable, so I fondly remember watching it repeatedly. My Vinegar Syndrome picks for the month were “Birth/Rebirth,” which I saw as part of the Film Independent Spirit Awards two years ago, and “Mother, Couch,” a film starring Ewan McGregor that I’ve been looking forward to checking out.
