A WORKING MAN

At this point, it kind of feels like David Ayer and Jason Statham should just give this series a name—Statham keeps playing these ex-military guys with random day jobs. First he was a beekeeper, now he’s a construction worker. I’m curious what profession they’ll give him next. Either way, he’s super dependable in these roles. It really just comes down to how much scenery they let him chew.

The villains are definitely the weakest part of the movie. It’s the usual Russian mob scenario—kind of John Wick-style—but without the same kind of star power or presence. One of the more low-key but cool surprises was David Harbour playing the blind best friend. He’s almost unrecognizable and totally sells it. Also, Arianna Rivas was a standout. Her role was small, but she made a real impact—I wished they’d given her more to do.

FILM SYNOPSIS

Levon Cade left his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he’s asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism.
