THE ACCOUNTANT

“The Accountant” seemed like it shouldn’t work on paper—but thanks to solid direction and a great cast, it actually turns out to be really entertaining. It takes the idea of autism and uses it almost like a superpower, which gives it a unique spin—it feels like a superhero movie without actually being one. Affleck does a good job in the lead role, but it’s really the supporting cast that elevates everything. J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick, and Jon Bernthal bring a level of class and depth that makes it feel more than just a typical Jason Bourne-style action flick. The writing is sharp too—there are a few surprising twists that sneak up on you, without the movie trying to telegraph them. All in all, it’s a fun little action ride that’s way better than I expected.
