July was a wild ride for collectors—so many releases, and honestly, some of the best of the year so far. My top pick? Sinners. It’s still my favorite movie of the year, and the 4K Steelbook looks amazing. I might even double dip just for that slick slipcover on the standard edition. I also added Thunderbolts to my Marvel shelf, which felt like a win.

Lionsgate Limited surprised everyone by trying Digipacks instead of their usual Steelbooks. Frailty and The Surfer led the way, and Ghoulies III continued the Vestron line. Not sure if this is a one-off or the start of something new, but I’m into it.

Shout Factory dominated my pickups—eight releases! I’m deep into their Shout Select line, and this month’s lineup was solid: Alexander, Primary Colors, Strangers With Candy, and Ace Ventura. I even double-dipped on Ace for the Steelbook. Same with RoboCop 2 and Demeter—the new artwork was too good to pass up.

Kino Lorber dropped Billy Madison in 4K, and I grabbed some Criterion titles during the sale—Carnal Knowledge, You Can Count on Me, and All We Imagine as Light. From Vinegar Syndrome, it was Mac and Me, The Rage: Carrie 2, and Ghostlight.

A24 is killing it with their in-house releases. I love how clean and uniform the packaging looks. This month’s additions were Warfare, Death of a Unicorn, and The Legend of Ochi. Wish they’d all get 4K, though—only Warfare did.

Some great Steelbooks dropped too—Fallout: Season 1, Serenity, In a Violent Nature, Small Soldiers. But not all was great: the Earthquake Steelbook had rough art, and Clueless just reused the old Blu-ray Steelbook, which felt lazy. Shout Factory could really step it up in that department.

Looking ahead, August’s shaping up nicely. Master and Commander on Steelbook is high on my list. Kino’s got Coneheads and Happy Gilmore coming, and A24 keeps rolling with Friendship, Materialists, and Bring Her Back. Plus, we’re getting Sunset Boulevard in 4K, new releases of Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon, and Karate Kid: Legends, and more Texas Chainsaw films from Arrow.

It’s a great time to be into physical media. Shelves are full, wallets are empty—but no regrets.
