On June 23, 2025, The New York Times dropped its list of the 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century, curated from the votes of more than 500 Hollywood insiders. The lineup of contributors was wide-ranging—everyone from directors like Guillermo del Toro and Edgar Wright, to producers Jason Blum and Amy Pascal, and even Hot Ones host Sean Evans. A few participants shared their personal lists, which made the process even more interesting.
The final results are a mix of Oscar winners, widely celebrated classics, overlooked gems, and newer favorites that are already making waves. Since I’m a physical media fan, I also looked into the most recent Blu-ray and 4K releases for these films. Surprisingly, a lot of them still haven’t gotten the full 4K upgrade treatment.
It made me wonder—if you were putting this list together, what would make the cut for you?
