The Delta (#1309)
Criterion | 1996 | 85 min | Not Rated
Directed by Ira Sachs
The complexities of race, class, and sexuality collide within a Memphis community in the strikingly raw debut feature from director Ira Sachs. With neorealist immediacy, The Delta tells what at first appears to be a simple love story: two young men—Lincoln (Shayne Gray), a closeted white teenager, and Minh (Thang Chan), a Black Vietnamese immigrant—meet at a cruising spot and embark on a nighttime journey by boat down the Mississippi River. But soon, imbalances of power and privilege emerge between them, as the film develops into a devastating vision of lost, wounded souls reaching out in the dark for human connection.

- New 2K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Ira Sachs, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack
- Audio commentary from 2001 featuring Sachs
- New interview with Sachs, conducted by film critic Keith Uhlich
- Two short films by Sachs: Vaudeville (1991) and Lady (1993)
- English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing

Peter Hujar’s Day
Criterion | 2025 | 76 min | Not Rated
Directed by Ira Sachs
A loving snapshot of a vanished New York, director Ira Sachs’s captivating cultural time capsule is a warm, witty, graceful re-creation of a real-life conversation that took place between photographer Peter Hujar (Ben Whishaw) and writer Linda Rosenkrantz (Rebecca Hall) in 1974. Peter Hujar’s Day eavesdrops on the two friends’ leisurely, affectionate hangout as Hujar recounts his previous day’s activities, offering insights into both his art and his everyday life. What emerges is a touching celebration of creativity, connection, and simply being present, made exceptionally vivid by Sachs’s cinematic flourishes and wonderfully tender performances from Whishaw and Hall, whose chemistry gives the film its heart and soul.

10 To Midnight
Kino Lorber | 1983 | 101 min | Not Rated
Directed by J. Lee Thompson
As the clock ticks 10 to Midnight—Bronson is back on the streets…with a vengeance! Serving up vigilante justice as only he can, tough-guy legend Charles Bronson (Death Wish series) delivers one of his most riveting performances in this Cannon Films classic that’s slick, suspenseful and scary. Bronson is Leo Kessler, a cynical L.A. cop on the trail of a cunning psycho (Gene Davis, Cruising) whose genius for concocting airtight alibis is surpassed only by the horror of his erotic crimes. But the killer makes a fatal mistake: choosing the cop’s spunky daughter (Lisa Eilbacher, Leviathan) as his number one target, and forcing Kessler to go rogue. Co-starring Andrew Stevens (Death Hunt), Geoffrey Lewis (High Plains Drifter), Robert F. Lyons (Death Wish II) and Wilford Brimley (Hard Target), 10 to Midnight is “exceedingly well-made” (Gene Siskel, Chicago Tribune) by screenwriter William Roberts (Bronson’s The Magnificent Seven) and director J. Lee Thompson (9 Bronson flicks including The White Buffalo, The Evil That Men Do and Murphy’s Law).

George Stevens: A Filmmaker’s Journey
Warner Bros. | 1984 | 112 min | Not Rated
Directed by George Stevens, Jr.
“Life is a journey,” Lt. Colonel George Stevens wrote in his wartime journal. “And it’s always most interesting when you’re not sure where you’re going.” Signposts marking Stevens’ life journey are here in a celebration of his work and times. Filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese, and Guillermo del Toro celebrate the majesty and humanity of his work. A Filmmaker’s Journey captures the moviemaker’s career sweep from laugh-filled early works to penetrating postwar tales of social consciousness that led to two Oscars for outstanding directing. The films explored are unforgettable: Alice Adams, Swing Time, Gunga Din, A Place in the Sun, Shane, and Giant—plus Stevens’ own color combat footage he shot during World War II in Europe. The emotional impact is lasting. It’s a journey well worth taking, now more than ever—this acclaimed 1984 documentary has been meticulously restored in a 4K HDR presentation. Rider On The Rain
Kino Lorber | 1970 | 1 Movie, 2 Cuts | 117 min | Not Rated
Directed by René Clément
From René Clément, the legendary director of Forbidden Games, Joy House and Is Paris Burning? comes this stylish thriller starring screen legend Charles Bronson (Violent City, Death Wish). When a beautiful young woman (Marlène Jobert, Last Known Address, Mad Enough to Kill) in the South of France is stalked and then assaulted by a mysterious masked assailant, she kills the man in self-defense, and in a moment of misjudgment, she dumps his corpse over a cliff into the sea instead of calling the police. Trying to return to her life before the attack, her world is turned upside down when an American investigator (Bronson) shows up and, to her horror, seems to know everything. Rider on the Rain showcases fine performances both from Bronson, whose mix of sympathy and aggression perfectly defines his character, and Jobert, who gains audience empathy with her touch of sexuality mixed with an innate, almost childlike innocence. Featuring a haunting and beautiful score by Francis Lai (Love Story) with wonderful supporting performances by Gabriele Tinti (Death Occurred Last Night) and Jill Ireland (The Mechanic).

Tiefland
Kino Lorber | 1954 | 98 min | Not Rated
Directed by Leni Riefenstahl
In her second film as director, Leni Riefenstahl returned to the mountain settings which had made her a star of German cinema. Tiefland (Lowlands) dramatizes the conflicts between the shepherds on the slopes of the Spanish Pyrenees and the power-hungry Don Sebastian (Bernhard Minetti) who diverts their water to the plains below, in order to feed his cattle. Don Sebastian becomes smitten with Martha, an exotic Spanish dancer (Riefenstahl), and schemes to add her to his menagerie. Martha tries to broker a peace between the cattle baron and the shepherds, but Don Sebastian’s greed is insatiable, and a violent confrontation seems inevitable. Tiefland was filmed in 1932, but the footage was confiscated by Allied forces during World War II. It wasn’t until 1954 that Riefenstahl was able to complete the film—in spite of some of the footage having been lost in the interim. This edition of Tiefland was restored in 4K from the original 35mm negative.
