Esteemed parapsychologist Dr. Werner Vogler has come to the castle home of Mrs. Rezzori, a beautiful but irascible wheelchair-bound aristocrat, to practice his famed energy healing on her. Arriving on the grounds, Vogler is immediately struck by the sense that something dreadful once occurred at the castle, and he soon learns that its abandoned wing is rumored by locals to be haunted. Sure enough, as his stay progresses, the doctor begins to be assailed by gruesome visions of a frenzied stabbing and a ghoulish figure in a wheelchair. With the aid of a local journalist and Mrs. Rezzori’s estranged cousin, Micaela, Vogler starts to unravel the castle’s ghoulish past – unwittingly setting in motion a horrifying and bloody series of events.
Produced as part of a series of direct-to-video horror movies distributed under the banner of “Lucio Fulci presents” to capitalize on the Italian Godfather of Gore’s name, 1989’s BLOODY PSYCHO stands as one of the most downright entertaining entries in the cycle, serving up an assortment of brutal supernatural slashings alongside a healthy dose of sexual intrigue. Helmed by director Leandro Lucchetti (Apocalypse Mercenaries) and reuniting actors Brigitte Christensen and Marco Di Stefano from the previous year’s Blood Delirium, the Italian horror hounds at Vinegar Syndrome are delighted to let BLOODY PSYCHO loose in its world UHD premiere, restored in 4K from its original 16mm negative and stacked with a host of brand new bonus features.

Ambitious Manhattan executive Bart Hughes has pretty much got it made. He and his beautiful wife and young son live in an exquisite Upper East Side brownstone that Bart himself renovated entirely by hand. And he’s just been handed a difficult project at work, which could advance him considerably. But when his wife and son take a trip to Vermont, a most unwanted intruder joins Bart at home, a being which will challenge all his wits, cunning, and brute force. A shrewd NYC sewer rat proves its survival instincts can shred any human’s nerves just as it chews through wires or concrete. Only one animal can win in this battle at home, but which one?
A wicked, unnerving thriller centered upon an electrifying Peter Weller (RoboCop) in his first lead role, OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN brings an intense man-versus-beast tale indoors. Directed by George P. Cosmatos (Tombstone), it also features supporting roles by Lawrence Dane (Happy Birthday to Me), Jennifer Dale (Stone Cold Dead), Louis Del Grande (Scanners), and Shannon Tweed (In the Cold of the Night). Ice Cream Man
⍟ VINEGAR SYNDROME ⍟
[ VS-540 CASE ]
1995 | 86 min | 1.85:1 | English DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo
Directed by Norman Apstein
Starring: Clint Howard, Olivia Hussey, David Naughton, Jan-Michael Vincent, David Warner
This special limited edition 2-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray set comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Robert Sammelin), includes a 40-page perfect bound book and is limited to 6,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.
Gregory Tudor spent years in a mental hospital after the trauma of witnessing the cold-blooded killing of his beloved childhood ice cream man, Butch Brickle. Eventually released to the alleged care of the vapid Nurse Wharton, and still entirely consumed with the art of frozen confections, Gregory takes over Butch’s ice cream business and, of course, his iconic truck. But Gregory’s secret recipes for Rocky Road and Pistachio have improved upon those of his idol, as he adds selected bits of human corpses for an extra tasty treat. But when a few neighborhood kids get a bit too nosy and arouse the interest (and hunger) of the police, Gregory has little choice but to make sure they end up in the next batch of his popular ice cream.
A deliciously twisted horror confection of the direct-to-video era, Norman Apstein’s ICE CREAM MAN offers an outrageous starring turn from master character actor Clint Howard (Evilspeak, Apollo 13) as Gregory, in addition to memorable supporting performances from Olivia Hussey (Black Christmas), David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), Jan-Michael Vincent (The Mechanic, TV’s Airwolf), and David Warner (In the Mouth of Madness). Vinegar Syndrome is excited to dish out this absurdly gory and darkly humorous cult favorite to 4K UHD, newly restored from its original negative and offering an extensive selection of extras.

Faces of Death III
⍟ VINEGAR SYNDROME ARCHIVE ⍟
[ VSA-066 ]
1985 | 105 min | 1.33:1 | English Mono
Directed by John Alan Schwartz
Starring: Michael Carr
FACES OF DEATH II is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT, Denver, CO, Toronto, ON, and Pittsburgh, PA. Unique to this line, each numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.
These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This spot gloss slipcase edition (designed by Steak Mtn.) is strictly limited to 3,333 units. This release may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.
The shocking analysis of death in full color continues in the expanded, ambitious FACES OF DEATH III! Amid the ongoing success of their appalling series of video-rental favorites, the makers of Faces of Death decided to branch out and make a more conventional “mondo movie.” The result was FEAR, an exploration of fears, superstitions, urban legends, and the real-life carnage that so often accompanies them. Despite having had a brief release in Europe, by the time a US debut was ready, the runaway demand for Faces of Death sequels was so overwhelming that FEAR was re-tooled and re-titled to FACES OF DEATH 3, which featured the return of the erudite Dr. Francis B. Gröss (Michael Carr) in video-only hosting segments.
Even with the enduring popularity (and wild notoriety) of the Faces of Death series on home video, audiences have been deprived for over forty years of the opportunity to see what is easily the most unusual and unexpected release from the Faces of Death universe. Vinegar Syndrome Archive is very proud to bring this wild and original mondo production to 4K UHD, painstakingly restored to its initial theatrical version as FEAR, in addition to its much more commonly seen FACES OF DEATH III video version, and packaged with an array of extra features.

Starring: Frank Sinatra, Faye Dunaway, James Whitmore, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Spinell
Welcome Vinegar Syndrome Labs (VSL) to the VS Sub-Label family! As with each of our sub-labels we are hoping to expand and defy expectations with the diversity of films we restore and release. As the name implies, VSL will serve as a kind of testing area for releasing genres and eras of film that one might not immediately expect to come from VS. The ultimate objective of VSL will be to see if these types of films will find an audience, and if so, pursue and release more of them…and even if not, still serve as a means of restoring more of the weird, rare, and unusual movies you might not expect from Vinegar Syndrome.

Detective Sergeant Edward X. Delaney has only a few weeks left before he retires after decades of service with the NYPD. Weary after seeing it all in a city now down at the heels, and with his wife just hospitalized with critical organ failure, he finds himself desperate to sort out a few Manhattan serial killings which leave victims with a gaping, round hole in their skulls. His captain wants him out, the department doesn’t care, and all that Delaney has left is his dogged determination and a few sympathetic old friends and civilians who lend him a hand. Meanwhile, the killer’s mysterious weapon, and completely random means of choosing his victims on the dark, isolated streets of affluent neighborhoods, is all for Delaney to solve in a city that no longer seems to make any sense.
A downbeat, gritty, neo-noir thriller set against sleazy 1980s NYC, director Brian Hutton’s (Kelly’s Heroes) adaptation of author Lawrence Sanders’ bestselling novel, THE FIRST DEADLY SIN, marked the final starring role for legendary singer and actor Frank Sinatra (Von Ryan’s Express, The Manchurian Candidate). It also boasts supporting roles from Academy Award® winner Faye Dunaway (Network, Mommie Dearest), Tony Award® winner James Whitmore (The Shawshank Redemption, Planet of the Apes), Academy Award® nominee Brenda Vaccaro (Midnight Cowboy, The House by the Lake), and Joe Spinell (Rocky, Maniac). Vinegar Syndrome Labs is delighted to finally bring this underseen, dirty old New York gem to Blu-ray, newly restored and featuring an illuminating assortment of extras.

Santa Mira High is a competitive place, where even the principal challenges students to strive for excellence in every regard. No one hears this message more than Angela, who’s convinced this is her year to join the newspaper staff, get in with the popular crowd, and make the cheerleading team. But the popular girls are led by Stacy, who’s quick with a put-down and often more than a little mean. When Stacey suddenly winds up stabbed multiple times and left on a neighbor’s doorstep, her death rocks the entire close-knit community of Santa Mira. The police have no real leads or any evidence as to who the killer is, while the high school kids go after their own candidate for the crime. Now that the FBI has been called in and the media are becoming increasingly involved, will revealing the truth further divide the once-peaceful town?
A long-time cable TV favorite based on a real case from a decade earlier, DEATH OF A CHEERLEADER from veteran director William A. Graham (Return to the Blue Lagoon) brought together younger stars Kellie Martin (Life Goes On) and Tori Spelling (Beverly Hills, 90210), alongside prolific veteran players Valerie Harper (Rhoda) and Eugene Roche (Soap). While Jim Henley is taking his family on a scenic road trip through the Nevada desert, his son Matt asks them to stop to photograph a ghost town called Weaver. The problem is, none of the locals seem to have ever heard of it, and it’s not on any of the maps except for a vintage one Matt dug up. Once there, they find more and more evidence that this abandoned town harbors something very alive and extremely perilous, and others who’ve gone to explore Weaver may have suffered horrible consequences. As they continue to poke around Weaver, an unknown force appears bent on making sure that Jim and his family aren’t going anywhere.
An ambitious, thoroughly creepy thriller written and directed by prolific telefilm writer Walter Klenhard (Buried Alive II), DISAPPEARANCE uses the barren Australian outback as a stand-in for the US southwest for a tense tale inspired by desert horrors such as The Hills Have Eyes. Reuniting TV’s L.A. Law veterans Harry Hamlin (Clash of the Titans) and Susan Dey (Looker), the film also boasts sweeping and eerie desert cinematography by David Connell (Storm of the Century) and an unsettling score by Shirley Walker (Final Destination). A double dose of psychotropic anti-time capsules from producer David F. Friedman (Blood Feast) and director Byron Mabe (She Freak)! Billed as “the first Hollywood underground film,” The Acid Eaters tells the mind-expanding story of a group of working class swingers (including Pat Barrington, Orgy of the Dead) who drop acid and melt into sex, knife fights, and a literal trip to hell. Then it’s time to blast-off with Space Thing, a warped homage to 1960s sci-fi and pulp fiction that follows Col. James Granilla as he hops a flying saucer and enjoys close encounters of every kind with a crew of “space dolls.” AGFA and Something Weird are overjoyed to bring these campy Friedman gems to Blu-ray for the first time—”in psychedelic color” and newly restored from their original 35mm camera negatives.

One of a handful of female outsider artists to earn praise from the early exponents of art brut, Aloïse Corbaz—born in modest circumstances in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1886; institutionalized as a schizophrenic in 1918; and kept under psychiatric observation until her death in 1964—is portrayed here by two of the premiere European actresses of their respective generations: Isabelle Huppert, who plays Corbaz as a ruminative, searching young woman, and Delphine Seyrig, astonishingly committed as the elder artist.
Produced by Paul Vecchiali, de Kermadec’s sophomore feature, newly restored by Cinémathèque Française, is an ideal introduction to an unjustly forgotten giant of post–New Wave French cinema, who in the same year of its release would serve as one of the producers on Seyrig and Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce.

After spending years in a Warsaw prison for a violent crime, 20-year-old Daniel is released and sent to a remote village to work as a manual laborer. The job is designed to keep the ex-con busy, but Daniel has a higher calling. Over the course of his incarceration he has found Christ, and aspires to join the clergy – but his criminal record means no seminary will accept him. When Daniel arrives in town, one quick lie allows him to be mistaken for the town’s new priest, and he sets about leading his newfound flock. Though he has no training, his passion and charisma inspire the community. At the same time, his unconventional sermons and unpriestly behavior raise suspicions among some of the townsfolk – even more so as he edges towards a dark secret that the community hasn’t revealed in the confessional booth.

In the mid ‘90s, prolific W.A.V.E. Productions actor Dave Castiglione set out to write and direct his own brand of auteurist, SOV productions under the banner of Sharkey Video. Utilizing contributions from many of his former W.A.V.E. cohorts, his anterior Love is a Stranger duology finds Castiglione at his most fundamental, blending slasher, erotic thriller, gothic horror, and eccentric fetish elements into a lurid pair of backyard epics that buoyantly revel in both prurient sleaze and the regional charms of their South Jersey locales.
In Love is a Stranger (1994), young Gwen Stevens attempts to escape her controlling and abusive boyfriend Craig by taking a job at the studio of a local photographer and lothario named Landon Love. Unfortunately for Gwen, many of Love’s female staff have already inexplicably disappeared, only to be found murdered at the hands of a mysterious, necktie obsessed psychopath. Broad South Jersey accents, sensual raw meat massages, and climactic mud tussling abound in Castiglione’s SOV debut which features performances by Tina Krause (Limbo), Christine Cavalier (Red Lips), and Ivory Blackwood (Bloody Creek).
In Love is a Stranger Again (1997), Gwen rekindles her relationship with Craig and returns to her job at Landon Love’s photography studio, still haunted and traumatized by the string of murders she narrowly survived. Plagued by nightmares and bouts of paranoia, she becomes convinced that her assassin is still stalking her. Could the psychotic murder Bebe still be alive? Has she returned from the grave to seek revenge? Or is it all just a figment of Gwen’s shattered psyche? Find out in the elaborate and elusive sequel which features performances by Dawn Murphy (Backwoods Marcy), Laura Giglio (Sorority Slaughter), and Dean Paul (Hayride Slaughter).

One of Lino Brocka’s lasting successes, 1988’s Macho Dancer admirably blends the maestro’s flair for socially conscious melodrama and pulp provocation — setting the template for what would become Viva Films’ erotic niche to this day.
Upon losing a reliable American client, 18-year-old gigolo Pol (Allan Paule) leaves his native province to try his luck in the soapy gay clubs of Manila. As Pol learns the ropes alongside fellow stripper Noel (Daniel Fernando) and savvy prostitute Bambi (Jaclyn Jose), he discovers more than his young mind bargained for: an underbelly of protection rackets, human trafficking and political corruption.
Underlying the film’s astutely cynical outlook on systemic, class-based exploitation in the Filipino context is a neon-lit tale of sexual self-discovery gyrating between queer desire and heteronormative strictures, sensuality and grit, tenderness and violence. Heavily censored upon release and hugely successful overseas, Macho Dancer follows the recent re-discovery of Lino Brocka’s Bona and is presented here in a new 4K restoration from Viva Film’s original film elements.

When Cynthia (Jillian Bell) and her wife Mary (Michaela Watkins) try to hawk a Civil War-era sword inherited from Cynthia’s recently deceased grandfather, he tries to get the better of them. The sword, however, comes with a convoluted report from Cynthia’s grandfather claiming the relic to be proof the South actually won the war. It isn’t long before the coveted ‘prover item’ draws the attention of overzealous conspiracy theorists and the two duos have to join forces in order to sell the sword to the highest bidder. The journey that ensues takes the ragtag bunch on a tour through the deep South and the minds of the local fanatics who inhabit it. Created from the raw talent of its cast and infused with a lot of heart and laughs, Sword of Trust takes a stab at uncovering emotional truths through moments of hilarity and hits right on the mark.

At City Hospital, the traditional therapeutic ethos of the “laying on of hands” is in no danger of disappearing. The lovely young candy stripers Pam, Sharon, and Cindy labor to ensure every patient receives specialized and highly personal treatment, always delivered with the most detailed bedside manner. Their eager allegiance to the hippocratic oath doesn’t stop with just the patients: the entire hospital staff benefits from their tender loving care. As much as these providers of extra-sensual healthcare enjoy their work, it’s regularly at risk of being spoiled by the pesky and uptight Sarge, their staff coordinator. Since it’s Sharon’s last day on the job, the entire hospital staff has organized a big farewell bash, which promises to be a real ball — that is, unless Sarge spoils the fun.
One of famed director Bob Chinn’s (Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls) most popular and successful erotic films, CANDY STRIPERS is a scorching, non-stop bombardment of outrageous carnality and brisk comedy. Starring Amber Hunt (Cry For Cindy) in the most notorious performance of her career, along with Sharon Thorpe (SexWorld), Cris Cassidy (Sadie), Nancy Hoffman (Dracula Sucks), Paul Thomas (Autobiography of a Flea), Joey Silvera (Femmes DeSade), and Richard Pacheco (High School Memories) in his screen debut, it also boasts a rollicking score written and performed for the film. Quality X is eager to wheel out this oft-censored curative classic, entirely uncut and newly restored in 4K from its original 35mm camera negative, complete with extensive new interviews with Chinn and Pacheco.

1972, 1974 | 191 min (combined) | 1.66:1 | French Mono
Directed by Jean-Marie Pallardy
Starring: Willeke van Ammelrooy, Corinne Marchand, Michel Lemoine, Jean-Marie Pallardy
Pulse Video is a France based, genre film focused boutique label which specializes in creating ultimate home video releases of cult and X rated films. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is excited to help bring their extra features loaded editions across the Atlantic!

Former model Jean-Marie Pallardy was one of the more unlikely figures to forge a career directing (and starring) in French erotic films and his genre-defying efforts gave birth to a series of inexplicable and unforgettable vanity projects. Pulse Video presents two of Pallardy’s earliest films, including his feature debut, both newly scanned and restored from their original negatives and presented in their completely uncensored versions.
L’Insatisfaite / Full Time Females (1972) A rich, elderly man attempts to assault his young nurse. As she escapes, she is murdered by a mystery assailant who stages the death to look like an accident. Believing himself responsible, the man attempts to cover up the crime and, with the help of his future son-in-law, searches for someone to replace her. They find the perfect candidate in Patricia, a Parisian prostitute whose face is disfigured due to an acid attack, coaxing her into undergoing cosmetic surgery and assuming the face of the dead woman. But things don’t go as planned. In his very first feature film, Pallardy offers a taste of everything that would soon define his bizarre approach to filmmaking with a cockeyed blend of eroticism, romance, family drama, and plenty of strangely staged action set pieces.
L’Amour aux trousses / Hot Acts of Love (1974) Francis, heir to an industrial empire, is traumatized by his mother’s suicide and suffers from anxiety attacks. After his brother is killed by an unseen assassin, Francis’ paranoia reaches a fever pitch. Encouraged by his aunt to rest at the family’s Corsican estate, increasingly strange events begin to occur around him. Francis’ behavior then turns incredibly erratic, as someone close to him strives to drive him mad. In his fourth film, Pallardy refines his style creating an elegant erotic thriller with a cast including Dutch actress Willeke van Ammelrooy (then Pallardy’s partner), the acclaimed Corinne Marchand (Agnès Varda’s Cléo de 5 à 7), a leading role for fellow filmmaker Michel Lemoine (Seven Women For Satan), and Pallardy himself in a supporting performance as a sleazy pornographer.
