In 18th-century Italy, seminary student Giacomo abandons his religious pursuits after it comes to light that he’s impregnated a young weaver and compelled her to undergo an abortion. Meeting a mysterious woman, he is promised sanctuary in exchange for an unusual task: journeying deep into the mountains to serve as the assistant to an ailing priest dubbed “the Arcane Sorcerer,” who has been sent into exile due to his unorthodox research into esoterica and the mysteries of death. Reaching the sorcerer’s isolated villa packed with obscure books, Giacomo soon after learns that the previous assistant, Nerio, was rumored to have made a pact with the devil before his passing, and may have discovered a way to transcend death itself. Unrelenting whispers fill the night air and ghostly apparitions haunt the ancient hallways, as Giacomo cannot resist drawing ever closer to the horrifying truth.
A magnificently crafted spiritual horror film drenched in atmosphere and permeated with an acute sense of mounting dread, Pupi Avati’s (The House with Laughing Windows, Zeder) ARCANE SORCERER (L’arcano incantatore) has long been championed by legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), and hailed by director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) as “the Barry Lyndon of horror films.” Starring Carlo Checchi (Stealing Beauty), Stefano Dionisi (Sleepless), Vittorio Duse (Mad Dog Killer), and Patrizia Sacchi (Sister Emanuelle), this visually rich film is accompanied by a classically lush score from famed composer Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Nothing Underneath). Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to conjure up ARCANE SORCERER for its long-overdue UHD debut, immaculately reanimated in 4K from its original camera negative and loaded with a treasure trove of brand new bonus features.

Genie has come to Alexandria, Egypt to spend some time with her father, Dr. Matteson, a devout Christian archaeologist who’s working on an important dig in the area. While naively wandering one day through a market, Genie is attacked by a group of men and is only narrowly saved from being assaulted when an onlooker, the sultry and mysterious Sabina, steps in. Sabina quickly takes the young woman under her wing, leading her deep into the strange, hedonistic underbelly of Alexandrian nightlife. She soon leads Genie to the enigmatic Paul Chevalier, a descendant of the infamous French libertine Marquis de Sade, of whose sexually perverse writings Sabina is an avid devotee. With Dr. Matteson occupied with his work away at the site, Genie finds herself falling further and further under Sabina’s hypnotic spell, unaware of her true nefarious intentions.
A criminally underseen later work from master of horror Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Poltergeist), 1993’s NIGHT TERRORS (aka Tobe Hooper’s Nightmare) sees the legendary director reunited with his Eaten Alive stars Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Mangler) and William Finley (Sisters, The Phantom of the Paradise), with the former turning in an incredible dual performance as Paul Chevalier and the Marquis de Sade himself in a series of atmospheric flashbacks. Packed full of erotic scenes, surreal visuals, and sadomasochistic set pieces, Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to present this too-long-neglected opus from one of the horror genre’s most revered craftsmen, painstakingly restored in 4K for its disc debut and served up with lashings of newly-produced bonus features.

Young, attractive American music student Susan Roberts arrives at the sprawling French countryside villa of the late, renowned composer Henry Ryman, on whom she is writing her thesis. She’s warmly welcomed by his widow Danielle, who lives there alongside her wheelchair-bound son Georges, snarky maid Lilliane, and stern butler Carter. As her stay progresses, things take on a sinister tone: late at night, the deceased composer’s music fills the air, played by an unseen pianist, and Danielle seems oddly intent on Susan wearing the clothes of Georges’ former girlfriend Catherine, with whom the student bears a striking resemblance. As the mysteries mount, Susan is torn between her growing attachment to Georges and the looming realization that this eccentric household harbors dark secrets—secrets that may threaten her very life.
Hailing from Britain’s legendary Hammer Film Productions and emerging during the tail end of the company’s golden age, 1970’s CRESCENDO – directed by Alan Gibson, who would go on to helm Dracula A.D. 1972 and The Satanic Rites of Dracula – is a gripping, slow-burn psychological thriller brimming with sexual energy and culminating in a shocking, fever-pitch climax befitting its title. While Hong Kong cinema and Taiwanese cinema often covered similar ground, they naturally remained distinct due to cultural differences and at certain times in history, even legal limitations. Nonetheless, three wildly imaginative and genre-defying films (one of which hails from Taiwan) are assembled here for one singularly riotous and wickedly entertaining collection
MAGIC OF SPELL (1988, 85 min, 1.85:1)
In the Taiwanese MAGIC OF SPELL, the kid-focused adaptation of Japan’s eternal Momotaro legend continues apace from the previous year’s hit Child of Peach. An outright bizarre fantasy/horror/action adventure, it follows celebrated hero Peach Boy and his devoted (though easily scared) servant who do battle against the blood-bathing Demon King and all the remaining demons of the underworld. Along the way, they encounter all manner of friend and foe, not least of which is the thousand-year-old Ginseng Boy, with whom they discover the true meaning of friendship. Starring Hsiao-Lao Lin (Kung Fu Wonder Child), Pao-ming Ku (Terrorizers), Shan Chen (Shaolin vs. Lama), and Chi-Chiang Chen (Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins).
THE DEAD AND THE DEADLY (1982, 100 min, 2.35:1)
Wah Li, a surly funerary worker in THE DEAD AND THE DEADLY, is shocked when his friend Lucho suddenly winds up dead, and even more strangely, an unknown pregnant woman claiming to be Lucho’s wife also emerges. Wah Li tries to sort it out but before long, the lines between fact and fiction, and between the living world and the world of the dead all seem to blur. An off-the-wall afterlife farce written by Sammo Hung and sold as a follow-up to his Encounters of the Spooky Kind, it showcases Hung’s famed comedy talents as well as action skills. Starring Sammo Hung (Project A), Wu Ma (A Chinese Ghost Story), Ching-Ying Lam (Mr. Vampire), and Cherie Chung (Peking Opera Blues).
SCARED STIFF (1987, 98 min (Extended ‘Uncut’ Version), 92 min (Theatrical Version), 1.85:1)
Best friends Halley and David enjoy pulling light scams, helping each other out with girls, and sometimes end up in one another’s dreams in SCARED STIFF. After blundering into a stick-up and then being forced at gunpoint to drive a getaway car, they find out that David has far stronger-than-average brainwaves. But when Halley’s asked to pick out the hoods from a lineup, and they come after him, their adventures together quickly turn deadly. And that’s before the police get involved. This buddy comedy quickly becomes a deliriously fast-paced sci-fi/action hybrid, with a broad range of bold movie influences, including Dreamscape and Scanners. Starring Michael Miu Kiu-Wai (Eastern Condors), Eric Tsang (Final Justice), Chow Yun-Fat (The Seventh Curse), and Emily Chu (Witch From Nepal).

Roxy, an anthropology major at her local university, is a DJ for the school’s radio station and a big fan of local lore. One night, a listener calls into Roxy’s show to share a legend about a cemetery hidden deep in the nearby Connecticut woodland where a group of outcast friars were allegedly killed and buried since the townspeople believed them to be vampires. Seizing upon a potentially great topic for her thesis, Roxy convinces her friends in a punk band to venture into the woods for a weekend of camping in hopes of finding the cemetery. Once the group discovers that the legend of the cemetery is in fact real, blood is accidentally spilled on the cursed burial ground, and the undead friars emerge from their graves in search of fresh victims to satisfy their bloodlust.
Written, directed, and edited by Connecticut filmmaker Kurtis M. Spieler (re-director of New York Ninja), NIGHT OF THE VAMP-FRIARS is a throwback to the low-budget regional horror films made famous during the video store era of the 1980s and early ’90s. Entirely produced in-house and primarily shot on actual Vinegar Syndrome property, the film pays tribute to the homegrown horror films of yesteryear by shooting entirely on 16mm film and utilizing lo-fi practical effects to maintain the film’s naturally DIY aesthetic. Vinegar Syndrome Pictures is bloody excited to present the home video debut of this gory Nutmeg state love letter to the art of independent horror filmmaking.

Driven to insanity as a result of his lifelong preoccupation with the study of death, Faces of Death’s chief resident specialist Dr. Francis B. Gröss is now no more. However, his esteemed and quite enthusiastic colleague, Dr. Louis Flellis, himself fascinated with what became Gröss’ life (and death) work, has dutifully maintained the same intellectual discipline. Here, Flellis gleefully presents another, even more outrageous series of shocking and tragic case studies (not sparing his own professional opinions on these subjects) in his own detailed examination of the horrific ending chapters of human mortality.
The fourth and final shot-on-film entry in this notorious and unlikely hit franchise, FACES OF DEATH IV was the only release in the series to receive a traditional, national theatrical release in the United States. Produced nearly a decade after the shocking original film, and well after the first three volumes had gained cult infamy and outrage on home video, this installment offers the weirdest, wackiest, and most blatantly unbelievable demonstrations of the demise of countless unlucky souls. A product of its time, the film underscores a shift from the stark, seemingly sincere ethnographic and political surveys of the first three entries into a more classic exploitation style marked by a wicked, gonzo wink back at the viewer. Vinegar Syndrome Archive is excited to bring this altogether distinct and charged look at the many Faces of Death to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, newly restored from its original negative.

One of the most famed and prolific novelists of the early 20th century, the English author Edgar Wallace (1875-1932) was first adapted to film in the silent era and, although uncredited, wrote the screenplay for King Kong. Wallace’s fame has never wavered in Germany, where a second wave of adaptations of his Kriminalroman (crime novels) became one of the most beloved and successful film trends of the 1960s. These Krimis not only inspired domestic imitators, but also predated and heavily influenced the Italian giallo genre. Despite seeing significant US television play through the 1970s, these films have remained obscure outside of Germany. Vinegar Syndrome Labs is delighted to finally present a selection of early Krimis restored with both their original German and English dub tracks.
DAS INDISCHE TUCH (THE INDIAN SCARF) – (1963, 87 min, 2.35:1)
A group of dysfunctional family members comes together at Marks Priory in Scotland for the reading of Lord Lebanon’s will, all with hopes of inheritance, but soon a major storm isolates them at the castle. No matter, as the final will may only be unsealed after they spend six days and six nights together. But after the first night, one of them is found strangled by a distinctive scarf around their neck. It’s left to the family lawyer to sort out what’s happening as the bodies keep dropping, which keeps the castle’s dutiful butler quite busy. Starring Heinz Drache (Circus of Fear), Corny Collins (Kill, Panther, Kill!), Klaus Kinski (Nosferatu the Vampyre), and Gisela Uhlen (The Marriage of Maria Braun).
DER ZINKER (THE SQUEAKER) – (1963, 89 min, 2.35:1)
Notorious underworld snitch The Squeaker is known for both ruthlessness and strict anonymity. The killing of a man who tried to reveal The Squeaker’s identity sets into motion Inspector Elford and Sgt. Lomm, both puzzled by the bizarre snakebite punctures on each body, as the bodies quickly pile up. They meet an exotic animal importer who recently lost a deadly black mamba. As local journalists make quick work of the salacious story, a particularly suspicious mute animal handler draws their interest. Starring Heinz Drache (The Brides of Fu Manchu), Barbara Rütting (Operation Crossbow), Klaus Kinski (For a Few Dollars More), and Agnes Windeck (The Hunchback of Soho).
ZIMMER 13 (ROOM 13) – (1964, 89 min, 2.35:1)
When shrewd criminal Joe Legge emerges from the past to blackmail the esteemed Sir Marney, he can only turn to ace London private eye Johnny Gray for help. Gray zeroes in on a seamy Soho nightclub called the Highlow, where Legge seems to be planning a complicated heist. All of a sudden, women connected to the club begin to die in horrific razor-slashing murders. It seems as if the answer lies in the private rooms above the club, specifically Room 13. But other worrying signs soon develop in this conception that’s more incredible than immaculate. Ingesting massive amounts of coffee and salt, and speed-reading as many books as possible, Ann’s blood type changes and she starts disappearing at night. As David, their doctor and friends try in vain to help her, they find they can reach Ann less and less, as this upcoming birth seems to have taken control of her entirely.

In Tracks (1976), Sgt Jack Falen (Dennis Hopper, Blue Velvet) returns to the US from a tour in Vietnam to transport the body of his fallen friend cross country via train, for a burial ceremony. Sitting Ducks (1980), offers a different type of road movie, with the bumbling but charming Simon (Michael Emil, Insignificance) and Sidney (Zack Norman, Romancing the Stone) leaving New York for Florida after ripping off a crime syndicate. And in Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? (1983), Eli (Michael Emil) and Zee (Karen Black, Five Easy Pieces) develop a spontaneous romance on the streets of New York City’s Upper West Side.
Henry Jaglom was one of the essential—albiet rather unheralded—voices of the New Hollywood, most known for his contributions to the BBS productions A Safe Place (1971) as writer/director and the Jack Nicholson directed Drive, He Said (1971) which he acted in alongside Bruce Dern and Karen Black. This first volume of Jaglom’s films collects three features that he made independently in the wake of A Safe Place’s success, all three written and directed by Jaglom. Cinématographe is proud to present these three films by one of the more idiosyncratic characters of American cinema, all newly restored from archival film elements and making their world blu-ray debuts.

The Films of Hisayasu Satô: Volume #5 – Brain Sex / Fuga Music for Alpha and Beta / Birthday
⍟ Pink Line ⍟
[ PL-005 CASE ]
1988-1993 | 171 min (combined) | 1.85:1 | Japanese Mono
Directed by Hisayasu Satô
Starring: Marino Fujisawa, Yumika Hayashi, Kōichi Imaizumi, Simon Kumai, Kazuhiro Sano, Kiyomi Itō, Yuri Ishihara, Saori Yoshimura
The 1970s through 1990s saw a boom in transgressive genre filmmaking throughout Asia, but particularly in Japan where the “Pinku Eiga” became one of the most popular types of films produced in the country. With young filmmakers seizing an opportunity to hone their craft, countless soon-to-be celebrated directors created work which were more daring, unusual, and often shocking than just about any of the other genre cinema ergering across the globe. Pink Line will present exclusive new restorations of select works from key Asian erotic filmmakers, with a focus on Japan’s Pinku Eiga genre.
This special limited edition Blu-ray comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo, includes a 40-page perfect bound book, and is limited to 4,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. Newly scanned & restored in 2K from their original negatives with approval and guidance from director Hisayasu Satô. (Packaging Artist(s): Steak Mtn).
Continuing his tireless output of inventive films, Hisayasu Satô’s work on the cusp of the 1990s shows us an artist experimenting and growing within the Pink genre, with some surprisingly ambitious entries. Our fifth volume of this series shows the director’s recurrent tropes of alienation, loneliness, voyeurism, and surveillance continuing to evolve.
In BRAIN SEX, two inquisitive young women discover a lone pirate radio DJ operating from a van. Broadcasting unofficial thoughts and opinions, the show gets increasingly complicated when the system of illicit broadcasting changes hands and takes on a covert voyeur angle. Descriptions of strangers’ fetish-laden sex described over the radio take a turn after happening upon (and engaging directly with) a serial killer, and a curious exploration of motives then ensues. Manipulating the multiple layers of vicarious distance between people created through not only video surveillance but also audio broadcast, Satô continues to explore concepts including deviance, privacy, intimacy, and the media, with sweeping photography of daytime rooftops and tightly framed night scenes.
Satô deliberately rerouted the Molester’s Train with his own thoughtful imprimatur on the long-lived series. Eschewing light entirely and the comedic tone common to the other entries, BIRTHDAY (aka Molester’s Train: Nasty Behavior) tells the tale of a young woman so demoralized that she’s bent on violent self-destruction on her twentieth birthday. However, once exposed to a serial train groper who also videotapes his work, for whom loneliness and abandonment also resonate, a fresh and revitalizing attraction begins to take root. Within this focus on two highly troubled characters, the unexpected emerges. A highly unlikely, and surprisingly tender, entry within an equally unlikely film series, we see Satô’s almost otherworldly facility in shaping even a rote concept into something entirely his own.
The spare character exercise FUGA MUSIC FOR ALPHA AND BETA (aka Pervert Ward: S&M Clinic) highlights an intense and dramatic relationship between a husband and his wife, where his extreme need for sadism (and its results) takes center stage. Focusing tightly on these two characters alone makes the excessive need to push boundaries through pain and tolerance all the more unsettling. When a highly unexpected third person enters this claustrophobic space, it only serves to concentrate the effect of Satô’s invasive lens, in this psychosexual exercise where bondage is hardly the scariest element at play.

FINALLY GOT THE NEWS is a forceful, unique documentary that reveals the activities of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers inside and outside the auto factories of Detroit. Through interviews with the members of the movement, footage shot in the auto plants, and footage of leafleting and picketing actions, the film documents their efforts to build an independent black labor organization that, unlike the UAW, will respond to worker’s problems, such as the assembly line speed-up and inadequate wages faced by both black and white workers in the industry.
Beginning with a historical montage, from the early days of slavery through the subsequent growth and organization of the working class, FINALLY GOT THE NEWS focuses on the crucial role played by the black worker in the American economy. Also explored is the educational ‘tracking’ system for both white and black youth, the role of African-American women in the labor force, and relations between white and black workers.

Who next becomes the keeper of the beast that lives on human flesh?
During a New Year’s Eve snowmobiling trip, Jenny (Rabid’s Riva Spier), her boyfriend Marty (The Grey Fox’s Murray Ord), and their friend Chrissy (Sheri McFadden) veer off path to explore a patch of private property. Stranded by a heavy snowfall, they stumble upon an abandoned hotel and seek refuge for the night. But before long, they meet a menacing woman (Rad’s Georgie Collins) who shares the building with her knife-wielding son (The High Country’s Bill Grove) and a mysterious creature who feeds on human flesh. As the visiting trio comes under attack, they struggle to make a safe escape – and maintain their grip on reality.
Featuring haunting performances from its entire cast and a typically atmospheric score by Paul Zaza (My Bloody Valentine), James Makichuk’s Ghostkeeper is an essential entry in the New Year’s Eve horror canon and a dread-inducing descent into wintery isolation and madness. Long regarded as the Canadian answer to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, this slasher staple is a Canuxploitation classic and one of the enduring highlights of the tax shelter era.

This church wants to scare the hell out of you . . . literally. HELL HOUSE is a fly-on-the-wall documentary that follows the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Dallas, TX as they build a haunted house for the Y2K Halloween season. But instead of Draculas and Freddy Kruegers, the church recreates scenes that graphically depict modern-day “evils” such as botched abortions, fatal drunk driving crashes, and drug-induced suicides. Shot on gorgeous 16mm film stock by director George Ratliff and friends, this is an outrageous, enthralling, and poignant vérité window into the creative effort and religious zeal behind this over-the-top event. The story of Henry Fonda, both on screen and off, is the story of the United States. It’s a story of democratic yearnings and violent shortcomings, traceable not only in the actor’s legendary portrayals of pioneering settler (Drums Along the Mohawk), migrant sharecropper (The Grapes of Wrath), gullible heir (The Lady Eve), and president (Young Mr. Lincoln, Fail-Safe), but also in his own life as the descendant of a Dutch family in pre-colonial New York, and as a witness to watershed events of the 20th century: the Omaha Race Riots of 1919, the war in the Pacific, the civil rights struggle, and the ascendance of another actor, Ronald Reagan, at the climax of the Cold War. “His face is a picture of opposites in conflict,” John Steinbeck once remarked, and indeed Fonda, perhaps more than any other actor of his generation, brought a sense of moral anguish to nearly every role he played, whether victims of injustice (You Only Live Once, The Wrong Man), or messengers of salvation (My Darling Clementine, 12 Angry Men) and terror (The Ox-Bow Incident, Once Upon a Time in the West). Tracing the entwined, complex trajectories of an actor and his nation in Hollywood movie clips, recorded interviews, and a cross-country pilgrimage to significant landmarks, Alexander Horwath—together with Michael Palm and Regina Schlagnitweit—has created a magisterial work of cultural history.

TAKE A SPIN WITH THE FREEWAY KILLER.
The Los Angeles Freeway Killer takes a drive to Las Vegas—and back. This video by Ken Camp is both trancelike and troubling, taking the viewer across the desert of California, through Nevada, and into “the frightening zone where lay the genetic codes and memories that make us all killers.”
Unseen since its 1984 premiere at West Hollywood’s EZTV Video Gallery, Ken Camp’s HIGHWAY HYPNOSIS is a disturbing meditation on the eroticism of violence and a major work of both narrative video art and queer horror.
Plus, in Ken Camp’s AS THE WORLD BURNS: It’s the Reagan years… and all of the men in the neighborhood are mysteriously beginning to turn gay. As Robin’s terminally unemployed husband Lenny begins shifting his attention away from the job hunt and towards the local trade(smen), she finds herself having to hit the streets to bring home the bacon. Meanwhile, Lorraine’s husband Ben has mysteriously gone missing and Linnea just can’t seem to find anyone who’ll let her borrow a cup of detergent. And what role does the Gay Neighbor play in all of this?
Commissioned by videomaker John Dorr for EZTV’s inaugural screenings at the West Hollywood Community Center in 1982, AS THE WORLD BURNS is an experimental three-part gay soap opera that was made using early consumer video equipment for the low cost of just $75.88 (the 88 cents were for the special effects). A wickedly funny satire on the narrative and aesthetic conventions of soaps, the banality of mainstream gay culture, and America’s rightward shift at the turn of the 80s, AS THE WORLD BURNS is also perhaps the very first piece of media to explicitly reference the the nascent AIDS epidemic.

- New digital transfers of HIGHWAY HYPNOSIS and AS THE WORLD BURNS from their original 3/4”, Beta, and VHS masters

In the closing months of World War II, a remote forest asylum is marked for liquidation. As the German troops prepare to lead the patients into the woods, Gestapo officer Windisch arrives with a different mission: a British agent is said to be hiding among the lunatics, and Windisch must unmask the spy before the advancing Soviet army reaches the asylum. He narrows his suspects down to three—a former literary publisher, an army sergeant, and a man convinced he is the Führer himself. But the deeper Windisch probes the patients’ impaired logic, the more his own grip on sanity begins to slip.
Hailed as the first truly modernist feature in Estonian cinema, this allegory of power, guilt and free will under totalitarianism was shot in Estonia and Latvia. The absurdist provocation was banned for two decades, and only officially premiered in Moscow in January 1987, under perestroika.
Jüri Järvet won Best Male Actor at the 1969 Baltic film festival. He was later in Tarkovsky’s Solaris.

If Leatherface from THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE made a home movie, it would feel a lot like OGROFF. Shot on Super 8 film in France by video shop owner/horror zine publisher Norbert Moutier (aka N.G. Mount), the movie follows Ogroff—a deranged cannibal who attacks anyone unfortunate enough to enter his haunted forest. Channeling a chaotic, droned-out slasher aesthetic that showcases haunted synthesizers, crazed gore, and surreal deviations from reality, OGROFF is the zenith of accidental avant-garde horror. Bleeding Skull is honored to present this fabled underground nightmare for the first time on Blu-ray, restored from the newly discovered U-matic tape masters.

Like an analog Frederick Wiseman, legendary cinéma vérité documentarian Larry Wessel (Ultramegalopolis, Taurobolium, Eric & Shaye) has tackled a wide array of eccentric subjects and captured some of underground cinema’s most striking and unforgettable visuals, equipped solely with his camcorder and a nearly non-existent budget. An aesthetic terrorist of the highest order, Wessel’s simplistic, fly on the wall approach to documentary filmmaking has allowed his subjects to reveal their stories and actions in the most candid and uninhibited means conceivable.
In Sex, Death & the Hollywood Mystique, Wessel turns his camcorder lens on the seedy and salacious underbelly of ’90s Hollywood by profiling the lives and confessions of several enthralling Tinseltown luminaries. Notorious L.A. novelist and true crime scribe John Gilmore (author of Severed, The Garbage People) shares intimate and lurid details about the Manson Family murders, the “Black Dahlia” Elizabeth Short, the “Pied Piper of Tucson” killer Charles Schmid, and his early friendship with a young James Dean. Legendary filmmaker Curtis Harrington (Night Tide, Whoever Slew Auntie Roo, Queen of Blood) recalls his personal interactions with classic silver screen legends Gloria Swanson and Marlene Dietrich. Famous Monsters of Filmland publisher Forrest J. Ackerman gives a memorabilia tour of his jaw-dropping “Ackermansion” and recounts setting Metropolis director Fritz Lang up on a blind date. Most poignantly, Wessel cross cuts all these anecdotes with a day in the life of sex worker Kelly Monroe, who candidly preps and plans for an evening of clients from a single, seedy hotel room locale. Featuring additional appearances by Karine Elkins (Superstarlet A.D.) and disabled trans icon Sandie Crisp aka The Goddess Bunny, Wessel’s Sex, Death & the Hollywood Mystique combines the true crime, biographical, and travelogue asesthetics of documentary filmmaking into one sprawling and unforgettable 2.5 hour SOV epic.

Juvenile delinquent classic filled with brawls, booze and sex. The tough young gangster Myggan (“The Mosquito”) escapes from juvenile prison, heading straight for trouble. What follows is a breathless catalogue of bad decisions: a stolen gun from a military depot, a string of burgled summer houses, a crashed car, a shot police officer, and a girlfriend driven to prostitution to keep them both alive. The newspapers call him the “Valla Desperado”. The censors called the whole thing “a speculation in cynicism” and tried to ban it outright. They lost—though they did carve out four minutes before letting it through.
First-time director Arne Ragneborn was twenty-nine years old and apparently had no interest in making anything polite. His debut is lean, mean, and genuinely uncomfortable—a juvenile delinquent film that earns its genre credentials without winking at the audience. Ragneborn would go on to make four more features in rapid succession, consistently drawn to desperate youth, alcohol, violence and the jagged edges of the Swedish dream, and consistently locking horns with the censors along the way.
The film was restored by the Swedish Film Institute.

PEEKARAMA presents the wildest, rarest, and most scandalous theatrical hardcore double features. Taking its name from one of the earliest “all action” sex theatre chains, each PEEKARAMA release presents two themed, full length feature films, both meticulously restored, thus giving you the opportunity to enjoy an old fashioned dirty movie double feature at home!

Pioneering X-rated filmmaker Alex deRenzy (Babyface) made his name as one of the most transgressive, creative, and innovative filmmakers working in hardcore. Effortlessly blending counterculture and underground filmmaking sensibility with deft social commentary and a pervasive rebellious streak, none of deRenzy’s films better celebrate his madcap sensibilities than his groundbreaking PRETTY PEACHES trilogy.
In the original blockbuster PRETTY PEACHES (1978), Desiree Costeau stars as Peaches, a ditsy young woman who, after attending her father’s wedding to a new stepmother, crashes her truck, triggering severe amnesia. Uncertain who she is, Peaches is quickly “rescued” by a pair of con men who, hoping there’ll be a reward for her safe return, send her on an adventure to figure out her identity. Peaches stumbles from one crazy encounter to the next with an increasingly bizarre set of weirdos, opportunists, and screwballs, as she hopes to recover her memory. With Joey Silvera (Climax!), Juliet Anderson (A Girl’s Best Friend), and Sharon Kane (Alexandra).
Siobhan Hunter takes the reins as Peaches, an inexperienced young woman on a quest for a sexual education in PRETTY PEACHES 2 (1987). Peaches hits the road heading towards San Francisco, and winds up meeting – and bedding – an offbeat set of characters, winding up at the home of her crazy Uncle Howard and his bizarre family. With Ashley Welles (Tasty), Peter North (Stiff Competition), and Tammy White (Night Games).
In PRETTY PEACHES 3: THE QUEST (1989), Keisha portrays an intently curious Peaches whose doctor directs her to seek spiritual enlightenment to ease her mind. Before long, Peaches comes across new-age lesbian chicken farmers, crooked televangelists, phony gurus, randy nuns, and more. With Jamie Gillis (Blonde Ambition), Tracey Adams (Pleasure Maze), and Victoria Paris (Night Trips).

Abbey’s husband Harlan is overworked and undersexed, wholly concerned with bills and the money coming in. But while Harlan toils away, Abbey knows just the cure for her housewife’s blues — as does her posh best friend Barbara whose own husband Victor is lusting after his fellow attorney Diedre. Meanwhile, Cassie’s life as a high fashion model masks her secret profession as a hooker, whose newest client happens to be Harlan. Spurning Victor, Diedre decides to take a chance with hotshot artist Eddie, while Victor finds a willing partner in shy secretary Felicia. When everyone’s secrets begin to unravel, will these outlaw ladies stay on top?
Among the first hardcore features directed by the legendary Ron Sullivan (Babylon Pink, Getting Personal), OUTLAW LADIES relies on one of his favorite devices — an interwoven, character-driven, day-in-the-life comedy. Sullivan (as Henri Pachard), working from his own screenplay, crafts a clever, funny, and scorching story of women whose insatiable libidos are outshined only by their wit and cunning. Boasting a hot original title theme, the film features an extraordinary cast of talent from both the East and West coasts, including Veronica Hart (Roommates), Juliet Anderson (Taboo), Samantha Fox (Her Name Was Lisa), Marlene Willoughby (Sunny), John Leslie (SexWorld), Richard Bolla (Scoundrels), and Bobby Astyr (Corruption). Quality X is proud to bring this unheralded treasure of early 80s eroticism to Blu-ray, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm camera negative and featuring a new audio commentary with its cinematographer, Larry Revene.
