SNITCH || February 22nd, 2013

The first time I saw this trailer, I thought it would be another paranormal, haunting movie but when it turns into an alien invasion story, I became just a slightly more interested, more in the fact that it hasn’t really been done in horror style since “Signs”. With a mixture of “The Happening” and “Signs”, I will have to see this film just to see where it takes this genre. |

Do not consider me a huge fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, especially in a based on true events story about a dad protecting his son from the prospects of going to jail, but “Snitch” has enough going for it for me to be slightly interested in the plot and its characters, including “Walking Dead’s” Jon Bernthal, Barry Pepper, and Susan Sarandon. |

Roger Ebert gave “Bless Me, Ultima” four stars, his highest rating, which means this film is probably really good, but with such a lame poster and wishy-washy tone in the trailer, I go from being on the fence about this film to not wanting to waste my time whatsoever. I trust Ebert and am normally swayed, but unless I start hearing even more great things about this film, I will probably miss out. |

Looking past the Lifetime Original Movie storyline of this film of a young girl being abandoned by her mother and left with her alcoholic grandmother, “Future Weather” appears to be held together nicely by a breakthrough performance by Perla Haney-Jardine. Following this intelligent young girl as she navigates through a broken home and her intrigue into science, this independent film radiates a pleasant drama that is filled with emotion. |

The foreign equivalent to the “Taken” series, “Inescapable” also depicts a man killing people to find his daughter who has been kidnapped. The only thing that sways me to slightly wanting to see this film is the stacked cast with Marisa Tomei and a completely convincing accent, Joshua Jackson, and Oded Fehr. |

A hazy, low quality action flick starring big names Steve Austin and Dolph Lundgren leaves plenty to be desired. With Austin and Lungren, I could almost give this film a shot, but add a poor, straight-to-DVD quality to the film and you completely lose me. |

Had “Rubberneck” followed through with its dark undertones, it could easily have grabbed my attention. With a woman in her bra several times throughout the trailer and the hints of an obsession storyline, besides the lack of star power, there was quite a bit going for this film, but it never quite hits it mark in the thriller, suspense realm and becomes just another independent drama. |

Yet another attempt at an action film that I could do without. Brendan Fraser is no longer a selling point for a film and seeing as I already find it hard to relate to any of the characters, I do not see myself enjoying this film, “Stand Off” even in the slightest. |
