THE LORAX
BY CHRISTOPHER HASKELL
MARCH 29, 2013
Pointedly agreed, “The Lorax” lacks the wit and charm of Dr. Seuss, but what it lacks in personality, it makes up for with humor and production value. I found myself laughing several times throughout the film, a feat that most animated children’s movies can’t tout. The Lorax has several distinct moments of hilariousness, as does Ted’s grandmother, voiced by Betty White. The singing fish and cute little bears are hilarious and make the film worth watching. You are blasted in the face by the theme of commercialism, but it works for the most part. The film is rich in color, and the animation works splendidly, producing a brutal movie to sell me when it was released, but after seeing it, I feel like it was a strong contender as one of the most solid animated films of the year.
