AMY ADAMS || The first thing I ever remember seeing Amy Adams in was Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), taking on essentially the same role Sarah Michelle Gellar had inhabited in the original (I also saw her first role in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), but that was later). From there, her star would rise immeasurably. I remember my heart breaking for her as Brenda Strong in Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can (2002), as she got played by DiCaprio’s character, and I remember falling hard for her in Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby (2006), as Susan, a character that held so much more weight than anyone else in that comedy.
There is no wonder she is a five-time Academy Award nominated actress. She’s an actress that can exude immeasurable sexuality, like in her Academy Award nominated roles in The Fighter (2011) and American Hustle (2013), or she can be the embodiment of innocence, like in her leading role in Enchanted (2007) or The Muppets (2011). Her other Academy Award nominations include her performances in Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008), and The Master (2012).
And she continuously proves she is one of the hardest working actresses in Hollywood today, proving so especially this year as she stars in three feature films. In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice she continues her performance as Lois Lane, being the driving force behind some of the most emotional scenes with Superman. Last week saw the release of her science fiction film, Arrival, where she played the linguistics expert Dr. Louise Banks who must find a peaceful way to communicate with an arriving alien species. And this week sees the release of Tom Ford’s (A Single Man) latest film Nocturnal Animals, where she plays opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in a thriller about living in the shadow of a death. All three of these films do a wonder at exemplifying her incredible range.
