FILM SYNOPSIS: Heiress Florence Foster Jenkins has been a champion of music her entire life, although her enthusiastic singing is dreadful. When she decides to give a concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944, her devoted husband and a befuddled pianist work tirelessly to ensure that the event is a success.
Who’s her competition? Era films are always the center of attention when it comes to the Oscar for Best Costume Design and besides “La La Land,” all the nominees are of period films. “Florence Foster Jenkins” falls to the bottom of that list in my opinion, with “Jackie” and “Allied” have much more memorable costumes, while I believe “La La Land” will likely take this category. I do believe there is an absolute art to recreating costumes from events that actually happened, as is with Consolata’s designs in “Florence Foster Jenkins,” but even on that front, I feel like “Jackie” was much more higher profile. “Florence Foster Jenkins,” will likely go home with zero awards for the night.
