BOMBSHELL

Charlize Theron

Successful Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, along with several other women, take on the controversial media empire Fox News and face off against the powerful man who created it.

UNLIKELY

At this point in the season, it would take a lot for anyone to usurp the front-runner Renée Zellweger. If anyone is, it seems more likely that it will be Scarlett Johansson. The experts place Charlize Theron as the next in line, but at that point, it will likely be a toss up anyway.

Margot Robbie

Kayla Pospisil, a driven and naive new employee at Fox News, finds that rising the ranks at the controversial media empire leads her into the world of sexism and sexual harassment, headed by the powerful man who created it.

UNLIKELY

Laura Dern is currently the odds-on favoroite and, like the Actress in a Leading Role category, Scarlett Johansson is the clear runner-up. Experts here, as with Charlize Theron, place Margot Robbie as the next in line, but I’d even put Florence Pugh ahead of her. The Academy seems to love Margot, but I believe she’s got better roles ahead of her.

FRONT-RUNNER

The makeup and hairstyling team behind “Bombshell” had the task of recreating this prominent men and women from Fox News and I’d say they knocked it out of the park. Add to that the fact that they’ve been winning across the board, specifically at the Makeup and Hairstyling Guild awards, winning three different categories. The only other nominee to win there was “Joker.” I also think there may be a case to make for “Judy,” as they transformed Renée Zellweger into Judy Garland, but that was one person as compared to an entire office building in “Bombshell.”
