Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Brian Tyree Henry
There’s a gravity to Brian Tyree Henry’s performance in “Causeway.” Despite the film being about Jennifer Lawrence’s character struggling to assimilate into everyday life after being blown up in Afghanistan, Henry’s character, James, brings just as much emotional weight. A mechanic who lost his leg in a car accident, James lives with the burden of his nephew’s death. Yes, Lawrence lost something in her IED explosion, but James has experienced actual loss. And Henry portrays that beautifully.
