At face value, “Ivalu” is a short film about a young girl searching for her older sister in their regular haunts, sweeping Greenlandic landscapes dominating the screen. Their father seems indifferent to the whole situation, as parents can sometimes be when their kids get on their nerves. But quickly, the motives of the piece shift to a much darker place. I’m proud of director Anders Walter for telling this story, which feels highly personal, in a thought-provoking and visually stunning way.

Pipaluk lives in a Greenlandic settlement with her father and older sister Ivalu. Pipaluk is not happy because Ivalu has disappeared and her father does not care. At night, Pipaluk dreams of a raven that leads her to Ivalu.
