With just over two weeks left before the 96th Academy Awards, one of the last precursors to the big night, the 30th SAG Awards, commenced at the Shrine Auditorium in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Stars from some of the biggest films and series took the stage, from Idris Elba, who played occasional MC, to Barbara Streisand, who accepted her Lifetime Achievement Award, to SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, who thanked everyone who helped in the historic strike that took place last year.

Overall, the night played as many ceremonies have thus far, with Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph continuing their sweeps in the supporting categories and “The Bear” and “Beef” continuing their reigns of dominance in television. Some surprises muddied the waters of a precise Oscar prediction, including Cillian Murphy beating out Paul Giamatti and Lily Gladstone beating Emma Stone. I’ll be projecting both of those wins for Oscar night, but they haven’t necessarily been the way it’s been shaking out all season. One reasonably sure thing, however, is that “Oppenheimer” will most likely be winning Best Picture.
