For starters, Glenn Close actually played this role in 1982 in a stage production of “Albert Nobbs”. After trying to get the play produced into a film for all these years, she finally found director István Szabó, a Hungarian filmmaker. Now imagine this, before the film was recast following a delay in production, the supporting roles were supposed to be played by Amanda Seyfried and Orlando Bloom. Though it would have made for a very interesting film, with Mia Wasikowska (also considered for “Jane Eyre”) and Aaron Johnson (of “Kick Ass” fame), the film takes on a much more dated and sophisticated stature, opening it up for even more nomination possibilities.
