Falling in the same boat as fellow Warner Brothers film “Man Of Steel”, the same sort of guidelines apply to “Pacific Rim”. Backed by a major studio award contender as of late, more attention can be placed on films under the umbrella, but with “Pacific Rim” not bringing in the greatest numbers or critical acclaim, the film could easily fall on the wayside. It also has the same possibility of taking nominations in Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing, all of which are interchangeable with films such as this. With so much competition this year, it’s anyone’s guess. Landing as one of my favorite films of the year, I do hope to see this pop up, but will not be surprised in the slightest if it doesn’t. Guillermo Del Toro’s name might not hold as much weight as say Christopher Nolan, but with these action films, you never know. With more emphasis on the huge machines and monsters coming out of the sea, that could be just enough to push it past the flying superhero destroying cities through battles with General Zod.
