The Man Who Sold His Skin
BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE

Sam Ali, a young Syrian, left his country for Lebanon to escape the war. To be able to travel to Europe and get back the love of his life, he agrees to have his back tattooed by one of by the world’s most notorious contemporary artists, turning his own body into a piece of art.

Tunisia

“The Man Who Sold His Skin” blew me away with how much I enjoyed it. Not only is there a passionate love story at the heart of it, but provocative socioeconomic allegories as well. Does it have any chance of beating “Another Round?” Not likely. Especially with solid international contenders like “Collective” and “Quo Vadis, Aida?” in the mix as well. But “The Man Who Sold His Skin” is one of those films that’s the whole reason I challenge myself to watch every Oscar movie. Because you never know when you’re going to see a film that you would never have crossed that ends up being one of your favorite of the year.
