The 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards marked the first time the ceremony was untelevised since 1979. The winners were announced online, with hopes of returning to a broadcast next year, barring any set backs to their representation initiative. The big winners were mostly echoes of the critics’ awards consensus, with “The Power of the Dog” and Jane Campion winning Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Director. A few upsets included “West Side Story” winning Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) over “Licorice Pizza” and Nicole Kidman winning Best Actress in a Drama over literally anyone else in that category. On the television side, “Succession” and “Hacks” were the big winners for HBO, while the rest o the television awards were spread around pretty evenly.
