The Set Decorators Society of America announced the nominees in their four categories, ranging from Contemporary to Period and Fantasy films. “Avatar: The Way of Water” is the front-runner of all the categories, even in the stacked category of Science Fiction and Fantasy. “The Batman,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once” are also all in the Oscar conversation. In the Period category, “Babylon” and “Elvis” are likely the favorites. Despite all the love for “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” there’s a case to be made that “Bullet Train” is the strongest contender in the Contemporary category. And, it’s anyone’s guess who the front-runner in the Comedy and Musical category is. If I had to guess, it would likely be “Spirited.”
