Best Achievement in Cinematography
Cinematography by Darius Khondji

Even without his go-to cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki, behind the camera, director Alejandro G. Iñárritu still finds his film “Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths” nominated for Best Cinematography. And although this is only Darius Khondji’s second Oscar nomination, his work is filled with award-winning films (“Amour,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Uncut Gems”). Iñárritu has an eye for the wonderful and finds a way to take a story about a man remembering different parts of his life and aggrandizes it. Beautiful landscapes and wild parties fill each frame. Even a ride on the Los Angeles Metro looks extravagant. Not his most celebrated work, “Bardo” feels like a much more personal story to Iñárritu, in the same vein as “Roma” was for Alfonso Cuarón.
