Setting a record for the most wins by a single film at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” received a total of four victories, including Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis for their supporting roles, Michelle Yeoh for her leading role, and the ensemble cast winning the top honor of the night. In another A24 win, Brendan Fraser was awarded for his performance in “The Whale,” beating out Austin Butler for portraying the icon in “Elvis.”

The theme of the night was perseverance. The lifetime achievement award winner Sally Field said it best when she stated, “easy is overrated.” Ke Huy Quan, Brendan Fraser, Jennifer Coolidge, and Michelle Yeoh also said as much in their acceptance speeches. They spoke to the actors struggling at home, waiting for their next job, to stick with it because they never know when success will strike. Quan was also informed he was the first Asian actor to win the Supporting Male category and thanked everyone who has been behind making real change in Hollywood diversity.

The television side of things was full of surprises. Sam Elliott won the first SAG Award of his fifty-year career for his performance in “1883.” Jennifer Coolidge also won the first SAG Award in her thirty-year career. Many guessed that Amanda Seyfried would be the favorite in the Limited Series Female Actor category for her turn in “The Dropout.” Still, Jessica Chastain would be honored for her work in “George & Tammy.” Bob Odenkirk has been on a streak of winning lately, as well, but Jason Bateman accepted the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series award. There was no surprise in “Abbott Elementary” winning Comedy Series, although “The Bear” was also a favorite, with Jeremy Allen White winning in the lead actor category. And the second season of “The White Lotus” won the Drama Ensemble.
