Box Office: November 11th, 2016 – Doctor Strange: Week #2

Doctor Strange and Trolls hang on to the top spot this week, while new releases Arrival and Almost Christmas follow suit in the number three and four positions. Shut In, a Naomi Watts thriller, was the only other new release on the chart at number seven. Last week’s release Loving finds its way onto the chart, with the biggest increase of the week, while … Read More Box Office: November 11th, 2016 – Doctor Strange: Week #2

Box Office: November 4th, 2016 – Doctor Strange

This post is a week late, so don’t get it confused with this week’s Box Office, which also saw Doctor Strange take the number one spot. To no surprise, Marvel’s Doctor Strange takes the number one spot with $85 million, continuing Disney’s record-breaking year. In fact, all three major new releases took top spots this week, filling out the top three, with Trolls making … Read More Box Office: November 4th, 2016 – Doctor Strange

Box Office: October 28th, 2016 – Boo! A Madea Halloween: Week #2

Well that happened… Ron Howard’s Inferno fell $10 million shy of expectations and landed in number 2 while Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween held tight and finished at number 1 for the second weekend in a row, now well over double its production budget. But with Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Dreamworks’ Trolls opening next weekend, that two weekend hold is all it will … Read More Box Office: October 28th, 2016 – Boo! A Madea Halloween: Week #2

Box Office: October 21st, 2016 – Boo! A Madea Halloween

Many predicted last weekend going to newcomer Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, but Tyler Perry’s crowd definitely turned out and put Boo! A Madea Halloween in first place by almost $6 million. Fellow newcomer Ouija: Origin Of Evil took a distant third. Both Madea and Ouija will likely hold up through the Halloween weekend while Reacher could prove to dwindle up against Ron Howard’s … Read More Box Office: October 21st, 2016 – Boo! Box Office: October 14th, 2016 – The Accountant

This is a post missed from last weekend: Opening to almost the same $24.5 million as The Girl On The Train opened to last weekend, The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, and J.K. Simmons takes the number one spot, with $24.7 million. Sharing the tone and big names of the winner last weekend, it comes as a little surprise that audiences turned out … Read More Box Office: October 14th, 2016 – The Accountant

Box Office: October 7th, 2016 – The Girl On The Train

Yet another late post, the big opener last weekend was The Girl On The Train, which blew everything away. The Birth Of A Nation did alright, but couldn’t make the top 10. Sausage Party and Finding Dory both found late surges, landing back on the top 25 again, Dory doing so after a four week hiatus. Also, last week’s release Denial, found its way … Read More Box Office: October 7th, 2016 – The Girl On The Train

Box Office: September 30th, 2016 – Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

Coming in just under his previous Eva Green film Dark Shadows ($29.6 million), Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children nails the number one spot at $28.8 million. This appears to be Burton’s eighth best opening, with his biggest opening to date being his live action adaptation of Disney’s Alice In Wonderland at $116.1 million. It’s at least in the top four for … Read More Box Office: September 30th, 2016 – Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

Box Office: September 23rd, 2016 – The Magnificent Seven

Unseating the two-week champion Sully, Sony’s Western remake The Magnificent Seven does a fairly decent showing with $37.5 million. Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio,  Byung-Hun Lee, and Peter Sarsgaard all star in director Antoine Fuqua’s adaptation of the gunslinging Western based on the Seven Samurai. Even the animated film Storks beats out Sully’s third weekend, both of which are from Warner … Read More Box Office: September 23rd, 2016 – The Magnificent Seven

Box Office: September 16th, 2016 – Sully: Week #2

An under-performing Blair Witch leaves the box office wide open for Sully to take its 2nd weekend in a row. In fact, Bridget Jones’s Baby under-performed as well while Oliver Stone’s Snowden landed about as projected. Sully becomes the 14th film this year to take back-to-back weekends but with The Magnificent Seven and Storks coming out next weekend, Clint Eastwood’s latest feature will not … Read More Box Office: September 16th, 2016 – Sully: Week #2

Starting (Certified) Fresh

Life happens. It “gets in the way” as they say. And I didn’t know the true meaning of that until these past two years. Where is this coming from and what does it have to do with movies? Let me explain. In 2009, I started this website. I was just about out of college (film school), I had begun seeing tons of films, in … Read More Starting (Certified) Fresh
